I think you missed the part where I said 'for us', as in for the arsenal team.

As a football fan I'm sure you understand the concept of having a player at your club for a long time and having them come through your youth set up and succeed. It fosters identity and great understandig with the club, including it's fans and traditions.
oh! another m_elayyan type of poster:p

what's with the "US"?

You obviously don't read properly my friend. I spoke about Clichy's game by game improvement and then I gave you a recent example to back up the opinion that he has improved as the season has carried on.

I also said before that how he has stopped the best wide midfielders in the league and when the champs league resumes we will see how he handles it on a wider scale. He has stopped Lennon, Ronaldo, Giggs, Rooney, Gerrard and Pennant in the prem over the course of the last 4-5 months. Bentley who has been terrorising defences got no luck, Ashley Young ditto. Sowed up SWP at Chelsea when he came on too (though that isn't particularly difficult given his recent form).

Given that he has consistently performed and has shown consistent improvement, he is doing all that is asked of him. I am giving you my opinion as I watch every single game; on the other hand, as you say you are in england, I imagine you watch perhaps 1/5 of them in their entirety but correct me if I am wrong.

You talk of development growth stage is pointless because I am talking about one specific player; it doesn't matter what happened to other players, your continued reference to it is a logical fallacy, a non-sequitir perhaps.

Clichy played well against Liverpool (I am assuming you mean the FA cup game, but perhaps you confused him for Traore in the carling cup game).

But then again, if you think Henry has been sublime since returning for us, perhaps you just aren't a good judge of player performance. He has scored 4 in 4 and has been one of the worst players on the pitch in all four games.
true that

@northbank

Well, as far as I am concerned, performance is not jus about being consistently good for 90mins. Players like Henry is well, just sublime. They can do nothing for 89mins, and the next thing you know it, they conjure something out of this world to change the dynamics of the game. Arsenal on the cosh against both Liverpool and Blackburn, with midfield completely rampaged over at times, but you know what, Henry produced on both occassion, an individual goal only he can score. His influence is just unmeasurable.

Oh, I play the game myself consistently, and being better than the most, and I take pride in knowing a thing or two about the game.

It's enjoyable debate.

Last word on Clichy; he definitely isn't the finished article, to make an assumption like that would be foolish but he is more then good enough at the moment and on the plus side has alot of potential (I can say this confidently having watched him since he first joined the club; both in the reserves and for the first team, I would say that he hasn't even reached the level that he was playing at before his injuries yet).

Him getting caught upfield is nothing; it is part of what we accept from our full backs; we play wide midfielders who essentially play as inside forwards so we expect our full backs to be able to patrol the full length of the pitch and influence play in both directions. Inevitably a negative aspect of that will be them sometimes being caught upfield; but that's why Gilberto and athletic central defenders are such a must for us (it is for this reason that I believe Senderos can be a liability at times despite his good defensive brain).

Henry hasn't been sublime; that is a stretch by anyones imagination. He has been effective and not much more. In both of those games you mentioned it took a monumental display from other players on the pitch to allow henry to flounce around for 90mins; those players have as much and more to do with the result as the goalscorer.

what's with the "US"?
Fans are as much a part of the club as the team; I have been going to arsenal for close to 15 years now, mostly home and now I'm older away as well. Even 'casual' fans are part of the club and it's traditions.

It drives me absolutely insane that after every arsenal match in which henry has scored that dimwit richard keys is always asking the same boring question why is henry not european player of the year, and everytime i change the channel. Seriously Henry gets a lot of praise both for his play and for Arsenal's achievemenst as well. Against Man united, well to be fair i expected him to be anonymous as he always is against top quality opposition, adebayor was the better forward but Henry scores last minute winner and of cos keys comes up with his crap
Everytime Arsenal loses and he is not playing, his legend is increased and people conveinently forget that they usually win big matches in which he is not playing
As Northbank said he has been average in all the games he has played in since his comeback but you still get the superlatives
The one thing Epl has over the most leagues especially serieA is that no matter how bad the team is , at home they always try to win or even at away matches they try to win as well, maybe not as much but they do try and do not pick a team that is set out not to lose. How else can you explain Boro wiping the floor with Bolton or watford and sheffield united, too very technically deficient teams giving their all in all games. Contrast that to Fiorentina on sunday where the manager sent out a team not to get beat and as oos as they scored an early goal, they were a complete disgrace and thoroughly deserved to get beaten. Reginna against Palermo were totally abject and were happy to draw at home with their rivals. Lazio are justa very poor side to watch with no imaginative players at all and against Milan they seemed happy to want to draw the game at home
In total contrast Reading want to beat man united and chelsea at their own patch

That is an interesting point that you make denco.

Increasingly teams have been setting out to 'not lose' in the premiership; you used a good example in Reading who I think have won many fans with their attitude to the game this season but many mid to lower table teams have been playing 9 at the back over the last few seasons. Year on year the number of goals per game in the EPL has been declining and it is for that very reason.

£8M upfront with a further £1.8M depending on international recognition and appearances is my understanding.

Any predictions for Tottenham v Arsenal?

I'm going 2-1.

for spurs?

i'm going with 1:3, arsenal are simply on a role and tottenham, well, aren't.
It will be our reserves versus their first team at their ground: i'd love that result, but can't see it.

2-1 will be a good scoreline and then we can bring it back in the home leg.

oh cool
thanks for the info
No problem mate.

is henry playing today??
No, he generally doesn't play in this cup.
