Suppose it is a percentage thing, picking up the most dangerous parts of the area, areas where goals are scored from. Then a different ball comes in or (more usually) someone loses concentration for a second or gets confused and it's a fairly easy goal or great chance. At least with man marking players can stay focused on a more simple task.
