Asamoah's agent said he'll stay and I hope so as well. He's far beyond Sturaro in terms of pure quality. All he needs is an injury-free pre-season.

But then what will happen when the eventual injury crisis happens?
Those are all mids so we would still have Pogba, Marchisio, Sami, Pjanic, Lemina, Sturaro and eventually Kovacic and Marrone/Mandragora. We are covered

Asamoah wasnt at his best for 2 years now. Sadly he isnt a reliable player anymore. Stu is italian and steps up when we need him. For 6th-7th CM you won't get better than that

These 2 are a big question mark for obvious reasons.

I don't want to watch us fielding Sturaro or Mandragora in a CL KO match. If we could get Kovacic on top of Pjanic, then that would be incredible.

Another midfielder is coming if we sell all 4 i think. Kovacic on loan is ideal

Midfield IMO:

First half of season: Khedira, Kovacic,Pogba,Pjanic,Lemina,Sturaro, maybe mandragora. The rest sell.

Second half: Khedira, Chessio, Pogba, Pjanic, Kovacic, Lemina, Sturaro. Mandragora loaned if possible. Or keep him and use stu as a rb i dont care.

Sounds like a lot of players, but Khedira is injury prone, Marchisio will be coming from a long injury and Pogba cannot play everygame.

This way we make sure we are not depleted in case an injury crisis ensue like this year.

yeh, thats why i think Kovacic on loanw ith obligation is a must. Mandragora will be here to gain experience and show his thing.. but we should not use him in crunch games unless is strictly obligatory. Sturaro is reliable enought, not world class but can get the minimum job done in a CL clash.

Pogba, Pjanic, Marchisio, Khedira, Kovacic, Lemina, Sturaro.

Stacked as $#@! with quality.

Mandragora will play 2000 minutes next season.
Pjanic and Kovacic in the same mercato would be brilliant. That midfield is just about as good as when Pirlo and Vidal were here.

Yep.

Meanwhile at Milan's forum, there's a debate if they should sign Benzema or not. Some actually do not want him there.

Kovacic can be a real cracker if he becomes self-confident.
i agree, and i think playing under a coach like Max in this team is exactly what he needs to become that. he was rated among the top talents in football back when inter signed him so the quality is there, one just needs to figure how to use him in the best way, and what better coach than Max at getting the best out of young players.

also, hes eclectic as fuck :beppe: as he can play regista, CM, AM and i think i even saw him on the left in a 4231 for Croatia some time. if we sign him i think we will play 4312 much more since we will have 2 players that can play behind the strikers in him and Pjanic. if hes gettable on a loan or a reasonable price hes a no brainer

He wasn't at his best because he was injured. He's not anymore... Even if he took a step or two back, he's easily Sturaro's level in almost every aspect of the game.

hes also on higher wages and cost us 18M while its debatable if hes better or as good as Sturaro right now. we should sell now while we can, keeping him is too risky, and its not like hes a key member of the team anyway

Nope still not as good as it was before..
Pogba is stronger now Khedira is definitely not at Vidal`s level while Pirlo and Pjanic are different roles but both represent the same so I`d give a slight advantage to Pirlo on this one due to his FK ability and his obvious talent to organize a game!

If we get Kovacic yes he is good but he isnt WC nor near WC level BUT he can get there quickly given the right environment (also depends on him of course)
Potentially we`ll have a better mid but current ability I`d definitely vote for the former mid!
Kante`s engine like style along with Pjanic Marchisio and Pogba would make me change my mind though...

Anyway Pjanic and Kovacic (on loan with option to buy) would be a very good mercato indeed
As for our attack I still think we need someone there but given our situation keeping the same attack wouldnt be bad at all
Selling Morata and Zaza to get Lacazette and Jesus could be very interesting if Real do sign Morata

Salary is another matter indeed. But seeing what Asamoah has done and what Sturaro has done it's not all that difficult to win a debate on who's the best player...

You are comparing the 4-men midfield with a 3-men midfield now. The year we made it to the CL final, Vidal only played at his best level the final month and a half or so. And he was still limited as our attacking midfielder. With Marchisio however we wouldn't need such a defensive 10 and in the attacking department the argument over who's best between Kovacic and Vidal can definitely be made.

The discussion between Pirlo's last season and this season's Marchisio is clear to me: Marchisio all day. How soon Marchisio returns at that level remains to be seen though.

Pogba has obviously improved a lot and Pjanic as a RCM is possibly an upgrade over the Marchisio we had back then while making up for the lack of inventivity we lost with Pirlo.

So all I'm saying is it's a very close call. The one midfield is not at all clearly better than the other.
