People are comparing players over different leagues and styles of play so carelessly its amazing. Matic couldn't impose himself on Verratti? Wow he must be a Seria B fodder... Verratti would never reach top-mega-1-legged Marchisio levels either. Its just sad really, Marotta cruising the world being linked with every top midfielder there is, but we cry so badly - nothing will ever replace Marchisio!

Matic is much stronger and better balanced than Marchisio ever was. He doesn't have the tactical discipline and probably footballing brain of Marchisio, but he has 3 years in Italy to improve that. Technique wise I'd say they are on par. If Matic is able to sponge on Italian footballing culture he has a huge ceiling as a DM, much higher than Marchisio. Not to mention we should all prepare for the possibility of a different Marchisio post-injury.

I've never seen Matic occupy the role Marchisio plays for us so I doubt he would come anywhere close to Marchisio playing there. Saying that Matic is on par with Marchisio in technical ability is a great insult to Claudio and not true at all. Matic is physically the more dominant player but as a regista Marchisio is from a whole different universe.

I like Matic as a player but I'm not sure we need his kind of player I won't be disappointed if we sign him however.

If you mean the Bayern game there were other things in play in that improvement. I see we have different views on these players and that's just fine there's more than enough room for different opinions on this forum

Yeah, he got an unfair rap. I remember a pretty good player for Lazio. Obv didn't perform for Inter because inter is flat out awful. I never thought he'd be a TQ though. He has always been a good deep-lying playmaker, and at thirty he isn't getting quicker.

Matic couldn't impose himself during many matches, not just against PSG.

I've seen claims he has a "much higher" ceiling than the best Juve midfielder for a while now though, so I'm going to leave it here. Fucking christ.

We get: James, Kovacic

I actually wouldn't mind giving them first option on Pogba at all. If there is one thing Real do well is pay well. I mean, that is the same team that paid 80m for James and 100m for Bale. We'd could realistically get north of 100m for him.

Dont care much about Kovacic but if Morata is the key to James then give them Morata...
We can go for other strikers maybe even get one who scores lots of goals

Yeah, also I dont really buy the Conte doesnt like him thing. Imo there is nothing in this rumour but I would be quite happy with his acquisation.

I think that the Berardi rumours faded because his buy is dependant on the Morata departure and since Alvaro future is still unknown its not clear if we sign Domenico.
Also all those rumours with Zaza going for 25m are bullshit for me, I will be happy if we can get 20m for him if we decide to sell (but I want him to stay).
All I want is attacking minded CM and young RB who can surpass Licht. I would also consider replacing Mandzu with someone better (like Cavani). The rest can stay as it is now.

It wasn't his best season. He was horrible for the first half and slowly started improving in the last part of the season.

I've not claimed him never playing DM I said he hasn't played the same role Marchisio plays (regista) so you are not refuting anything. He has indeed played almost his whole career as a DM but mostly in a double pivot.

I've seen plenty of Matic's games over the last two seasons I'm not basing my observations on anything other.

And in no way is tactical setup ever irrelevant when talking about football. Why would you even make such a claim.

Yep. One footed regista is going to be ugly Pirlo, Marchisio and even Hernanes are all very strong with both feet.

Marchisio,Busquets,Motta,Matic all have similar roles.Holding midfielders that anchor the midfield,distribute the ball and leave it to others to create play.
I dont fully understand the Italian term regista but if its English equivalent means deep lying playmaker,then Marchisio is not.
He is a holdiing midfielder to me primarily.Pogba has more claim of being playmaker than Marchisio.
Matic plays in a double pivot alright but he has genuine ball distributing skills.He was/is Chelsea's anchorman in mf.

Pogba is more of a playmaker as in creating chances then Marchisio obviously, and its not about roles because when Marchisio used to play offensively in previous years he didnt get closed to the creativity Pogba does now in similar role (not even half, because Marchisio was more about one twos and smart running into the box). Marchisio is more positionally and tactically astute and dictates from the back yes, keeps things smooth and moving but that doesnt make him a better playmaker, odd and very confused to think so.

Handful of creating Pogba does on regular basis that Marchisio doesnt do much of (has occasional sweet deep through balls, but most of these balls are made by Bonucci rather then Claudio).

How are people against Matic for 20m? Yes, he's no Marchisio. Marchisio is worth 40-45m. He's better than Sturaro, better than Asamoah, better than our recent youngster signings in midfield, better than Lemina. You find me a good midfielder at 20m who could rebound in form as high as Matic could. A year ago, we would've jumped through hoops of fire to get this guy for 30m. His form is on the low. Let's grab him, show him how Allegri does stuff and hrlp him return to last year's Matic.

This deal is a steal if true.
