Agent: 'Higuain won’t renew with Napoli’
By Football Italia staff
Gonzalo Higuain’s agent drops a Napoli bombshell - “we’ve decided not to accept a renewal”.
The Argentinian striker was Serie A top-scorer last season, and Vesuviani President Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to offer him a bumper new contract.
However, with teams across Europe thought to be interested, and a €94m release clause, it appears Higuain won’t put pen to paper.
“This is the situation,” brother and agent Nicolas Higuain began, speaking to Closs Continental.
“The President is asking for the clause to be paid to let go of Gonzalo, and we have the right to refuse to renew.
“We arrived at Napoli with the promise of a successful project, playing in the Champions League and winning the Scudetto, and it wasn’t right of the club to ignore those commitments.
“Aurelio De Laurentiis has every right to demand the clause in his contract be paid, but my brother and I have decided not to accept a renewal.
“We’ll see what happens next year with Napoli where he’ll stay until 2018 when he turns 30.
“We have a contract with Napoli and, as a great professional, Gonzalo will continue to respect it. But it absolutely won’t be renewed if things stay this way.”

Imagine Napoli if we signed Higuain.
