Calma

Champions League isn't won with a good CM. It's all about wingers and forwards. Just look at the last few CL winners ;)
I cant remember anyone winning it with a second rate midfield either. Last year's midfield is not good enough if the goal is to win the CL as opposed to QF finish. We are now worse on paper (in midfield) than we were a season ago.

I think it is good enough, IF and only IF Marchisio comes back at his best, and Khedira remains healthy.
If Marchisio looks permanently impaired and if Khedira is off and on injured, we can't go very far.

Things would get interesting if and when Marchisio and Sami get injured, lemina and Asamoah leave for the euros and we are stuck with Hernanes and Sturaro in midfield. God forbid Pjanic ever gets injured too.

If this is to truely be a great mercato we have to find at least one decent midfielder. The management know this too.
we have pjaca and mandragora too.

We weren't really in need of a fabregas more then we need a Sissoko to be honest.

I think we stocked up nicely on the flair and fancy, now let's get some foot soldiers.

I think we are in a difficult situation here. The profile of the midfielder we are seeking is now pretty clear as Marotta admitted that we were looking at Matuidi and the deal is off. This means that we are not after players like Fabregas or James. We are after some kind of workhorse. The problem is that there is no real quality left out there. I don't see the management overpaying for a player like Sissoko or Witsel. There is a gap for such a profile of player so perhaps the better strategy is to loan an experienced low cost version of the profile we are after.

Would rather keep the money and wait for a better opportunity to find someone with quality. Sturaro is not the best but I would rather we use a player like him than overspend on someone who won't lift the quality of the midfield. I don't know enough about Sissoko but the question we really should be asking is how much better is a Sissoko versus a Sturaro? Hernanes is not the benchmark here as he is not that profile of player.

Bakayoko might be young but he fits the profile. Might have to overpay but it's an investment.

You know what is ironic......in previous transfer windows we were stacked with CMs and trying to get an AM and we couldn't get it. Now, we have several AMs at Real Madrid that are "gettable", Fabregas and Draxler yet we are after CMs we cannot get.

I can't see the catastrophic picture that some posters here portray if we don't sign a midfielder tbh, but maybe because I don't feel that basing your investment choices on absolute worst case scenarios is a rational thing to do. I mean Lemina will probably miss two weeks as Gabon will be kicked out from the quarter finals max, and Asa will miss three weeks, and all those weeks are Champions league free btw. At this point of the season and from what we know (again basing my analysis on facts as much as possible) Marchisio will have 2 months of football in his legs, and Pjanic will be fully integrated into the squad and Khedira will still be our best midfielder, if during those couple of weeks an injury occurs we'll count on Sturaro (criminally bashed and underrated here) and Hernanes may be fielded against a serie a side for a match or worst case scenario in 2..It absolutely isn't the end of the world, and Allegri can always make a tactical change and play with two midfielders or even use Pjaca in the midfield for a match as it was rumored that he sees him in the mezzala role. And if worse comes to worst we can always loan in some stop gap ala Boriello but this time in the midfield.
Don't get me wrong I'll be over the moon if we get a good midfielder and kick Hernanes' ass out of Turin, but if it can't be done we are not doomed and we should be able to achieve our season's objectives which in my opinion are winning the Scudetto and reaching the CL's semi finals and hope for the best at this point. Cheers.

Things would get interesting if Rakitic, Iniesta, Sergio all gets injured at the same time for Barca, Kroos, Modric, Casemiro for Real etc. No team in the world can cope with that sort of injurycrisis. We have enough quality CMS. If injurycrisis hits there is the Winter transferwindow to act, or to twist the formation so we dont play with 3 CMs. At this moment Marchisio is the only one who is injured, and he will be back in october. Could we stop the doomsday scenarios.
