They are going for Jenas, which is a hell of a good deal.

Jenas is a great young player, 23 now I think. But he is far too good for Newcastle.
Yeah, I heard about that. Jenas isn't a bad player and wouldn't be a bad signing for Arsenal either but if he does make the switch to Highbury Newcastle would have been reluctant sellers.

Souey is a bit clumsy regarding man management, dropping jenas often, which didnt do hi confidence any good, then signing Emre and parker, considering dyer and bowyer are also fighting for CM...

I could see him leaving, which will be better for him and england.

Which is why they offered Dyer an 80k p/w contract which he accepted...Emre will probably be played on the left,Dyer can operate there as well. The centre pair will most probably be Parker and Jenas.

@madlawyer & fred weasley: Do you feel that Gilberto, Fabregas and Flamini have what it takes to get the job done consistently or do Arsenal need to go into the market for a defensive midfielder?

Gilberto is a quality player and we all know how talented young Fabregas is, but can they fill the void that Vieira will leave? His form wasn't excellent last season but in the last three or four years his presence at the heart of the Arsenal midfield has been tremendous.
well its like madlawyer said, they did pretty well in the start of the season, but to do it consistently?personally i dont think so.i think Wenger will use some of the money of patrick vieira's sale to buy us another DM.

i agree his form wasnt excellent last season, but IMO his presence itself has a big impact on the players,i dont know if we'll ever have a captain that has that big impact on our players.Vieira will be missed:down:

Anelka Desperate To Join Magpies - Souness
7/16/2005 1:01:00 PM
Newcastle United manager Graeme Souness claims that Nicolas Anelka is "desperate" to join the Magpies after just six months in Turkey.
Anelka’s time in Turkey with Fenerbahce has not been as successful as he had hoped after leaving Manchester City last January, and the France striker, 26, is seen on Tyneside as the sort of player who could complement Alan Shearer in his final season as a player.

Souness told The Times newspaper: "I know Nicolas is desperate to come here.

"I have done a lot of checks on him and everyone is telling me that he has got his head right.

"Last season was not great for him, but no-one can say that Nicolas Anelka is not a proven, top goalscorer and there are not that many around who are available."

Anelka’s turbulent career has taken in two spells with Paris St Germain as well as Arsenal, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City and Fenerbahce.

However, despite an impressive playing record he has rarely left a club on good terms - and Fener have not yet indicated that they are willing to release him.

Having let strikers Craig Bellamy and Patrick Kluivert leave St James’ Park this summer (for Blackburn Rovers and Valencia, respectively), Souness is still looking for suitable replacements.

Newcastle begin their season in Slovakia on Sunday with an Intertoto Cup clash with Dubnica.

I don't think anyone can stand Souness's attitude...

Bellamy is a great player and he let him go just like that.
well souness is a very strict manager,he doesnt like self centerd arrogant players like Bellamy.

I think that Bastian guy from Bayern should be an option.

Nevermind he's a attaking midfied
we already got Hleb, what do we need in another attacking midfielder. But if we did Bastian is a very good option.

Isn't he a right migfielder?
who?Bastian?if you're talking about Bastian,then yes he's a right winger,he could play on the left though,as for Hleb,from what i saw of him he's a playmaker.

A move for Mascherano would be interesting. I don't think he's capable of replacing Vieira just at the moment but Arsenal would have one of the best central midfields in the world in four or five years with the likes of Mascherano, Fabregas and Hleb in the squad.

What's going on with Julio Baptista? Has that deal fallen through?

SWP joins Chelsea
by Adam Marshall - 18.07.2005

Shaun Wright-Phillips has signed for Chelsea on a five-year contract.

The Manchester City winger quickly tied up the loose ends of his £21 million switch to London after arriving at Stamford Bridge with his adopted father Ian Wright and agent Mitchell Thomas.

City agreed to the transfer after the England international sought permission to speak to the Premiership champions and Chelsea upped their bid for his services.

Although Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would have dearly loved to bring Wright-Phillips to Highbury, Chelsea have secured another major capture.

"We're delighted that Shaun has joined us," chief executive Peter Kenyon told Chelsea's official website. "He'll be a fantastic asset to the team and squad.

"This carries on the Chelsea policy of investing in young, top English talent."

Wright-Phillips will be pushing for a place in Sven Goran Eriksson's England squad for next year's World Cup finals, providing the team clinches their place in Germany, but he appreciates it will be difficult to become a regular under Jose Mourinho.

"I never expected to be in anywhere and walk into any team, to be honest with you," he informed Chelsea's site.

"Competition is just healthy really and will help make me a better player.

"I just want to try and get some medals and be a regular part of the team."

well the problem now,is Baptista wants to stay in spain for one more year,in order to obtain an EU Passport.so i assume it has fallen through.

btw,didnt Mascherrano join Corinthians?
