Henry highlights anti- racism wrist band
Thierry Henry, the Arsenal and France forward, used the FIFA World Footballer of the Year gala as a platform to speak out against racism in the game.
Sporting a black-and-white wristband, as he accepted the runners-up award of World Player of the Year in Zurich, Henry said,
"The wristband is about racism. The player's can't do very much on the pitch, but this is a symbol of how we feel. It's part of a campaign. If we can get fans to stand up and speak out, that is something good."
Proceeds from the sale of the wristbands, produced by Nike, are expected to be donated to anti- racism campaigns in football across Europe. Nike are consulting organisations such as Kick It Out as to how the campaign could be run.
Details of where to buy the bands are not yet available but will be published here once they are known.
I really hope this band-trend ends soon
