DeFoe's goal was pretty much unstoppable, I think the rest could've and should've been prevented - but then we wouldn't of had such an entertaining game, would we?!

Vinny, for your information, all of Arsenal's goals came from defensive errors by Tottenham :D
Well, you could compliment them on taking advantage of Tottenham's mistakes !!:D

:wth: I have never witnessed a match with such horrid defending. I have watched teams with 9 men play for a whole second half against sides with 11, and they put together a much more solid defensive outing while even scoring a goal. Watching this latest exhibition of absolutely retarded defending makes me ponder "could this get any more pathetic?" No wonder why English clubs are a joke in Europe; they make a joke out of their own defense.

I blame two men - Pascal Cygan (one of the worst central defenders I've ever seen at this level), and Ledley King, who had the worst game I've ever seen him play.

And I hear people claim Cygan is better than almost all stoppers from bottom-half table clubs. If correct, that's a rather telling point.

I personally doubt it. He was a good defender in France, but then Tony Cascarino was a good striker there, so I don't think that merits any real attention. I think he would struggle to justify a first team place at a bottom-half club. Even Spurs wouldn't be eager to sign him, and they're as stuck as anyone there. I doubt he'd add much to even Norwich or West Brom, who are cannon fodder up from the 1st division for a season in the sun.

After his horrid displays at Arsenal, I do not know who in their right mind would want him. But I have seen many other cases of inept defending that were orignated by personal shortcomings. I do believe that Cygan would be wanted by clubs such as Crystal Palace, because they lack players with top club level experiance. Even though he is excessively blunder prone, I'm sure a few sides in the EPL would want him. That, IMO, is just the state of the defenses in England, absolutely wretched.

That type of performance from Ledley King is not one in a million either, he is not the player many think of him to be. He finds himself in trouble against the top clubs in the EPL far too often.

I would love to see how Cygan and King perform in the Serie A. The latter might actually be very good, because the quality level of the defenders he would play with would most likely be higher. That's the difference.

..

Pascal Cygan is one of the worst defenders i have ever seen (in general), he's far too lazy and doesnt move his ass. I think the reason why Wenger bought him, is becuase he's french.

Spot on, awful player imo. Also agree with Ramin's assessment. If he were any other nationality he wouldn't be at arsenal

agreed:groan:,one of my friends told me that the goals he's scored on his own goal since he came to Arsenal are more than the goals he scored against the opposition:LOL:(though i'm not so sure i can trust him)

At least England will have a new champion this year that is actually something in Europe and has something that merits a defence.
