Yes. I have seen him a lot for Liverpool. Just before his recent injury he started adding goals to his performances as well. That made him a top quality midfielder with potential superstar level. He's got both great physique and technical ability. High ceiling.

Here is something of what I call "extra":
I saw that game live, amazing goal, but scoring occasional great golazos doesnt make you superstar potential.

I have nothing against this guy, but I SEEN him regurarly enough, and nothing about him is close to what you describing. A strong utility player with good basics, passing, alright technique, strong, excellent motor, all around decent DM. But not much of a difference maker.

Superstar potential? Nah bro, thats for Pogba level mids. I expect him to be better then Khedira right now, but anything more then that will be gravvy, for your own sake keep your expectations low.

one khedira is enough

But in his defence, he is both slighly more technical AND a better passer then Khedira.

Point was a sample size of one doesn't mean anything. One bicycle kick doesn't mean that's extra that'll feature often or something the player should be valued on. If he had a knack for it (which no player does), that would've been different, but then again, every goal counts the same.

Can do score great goals now and then.

I'm convinced this guy will look better away from Liverpool. I don't think he has the quickness to hold up under Klopp's tactics where the CMs are chasing attackers in open areas. It must be so difficult for him.

In a more traditional defensive identity, I think he becomes a wall and most of his errors go away. Errors that seem to drop his reputation a bit with Liverpool fans.

In my eyes he's the Great Value version of SMS where he gives you 75% of the real thing for no money. :tuttosport:

Also I think SMS would look worse at Liverpool, just as comparison's sake.

I share exactly the same opinion.

I am wondering if we signed him because the management really see a potential in him and can make a difference in CL or because he's free and they can profit out of him in 2-3 years time.

I really want him.

Think he could be the perfect all action jack of numerous trades 3rd man in midfield to complement our current midfield three, if we're going to insist on sticking with Matuidi and Pjanic (not exactly the most versatile of players themselves). And for free really frees us up to address the other pressing issues at fullback positions.

The longer this goes on the more I want this dude.

Beppe loves his homogeneous squads and eclectic medium grade players. And we've been needing them till now. Even last year we had the Lemina-Rincon-Sturaro holy trinity.

Not anymore. Not complaining about Can, it's a decent free signing where worse case scenario is we profit off him (or whomever's place he takes like Khedira down the line) like you said, but not liking the Digne and Darmian rumors.
