The likes of Bayern & Man City are interested in this guy. Yet we're not aiming high enough, according to some. Can is exactly the type of player you'd want to replace Khedira. Plus on a free he'd keep most of the budget intact to add another investment in midfield. :hellyes:

What? A young versatile (can play in a 3-man defense) central midfielder of CL-caliber with a professional and mature personality; calm on and off the ball, athletic, good passer, good shooter, good workrate, good positioning and timing. Key part of a 3-man midfield where the workrate is immense due to Klopp's system, and that's with players such as Oxlade-Chamberlain, Henderson, Lallana, Milner and Wijnaldum. He is one of the most important players on top 8 CL team, that is currently number 3 in PL. A possible starter for the best international team in the world with 20 caps and 33 continental games under his belt.

No, I don't see how this player on a free transfer could be an attractive signing for us. Our midfield is already close to perfect + he is EPL trash.

Can we not aim a little higher?

It's a great transfer so long as we are still signing another big name midfielder.
Can someone sum up what this guy's strength's are and his characteristics?

Most obvious strength is his size and physicality. He doesn't have too much acceleration but at top speed he can break the lines. So it's a pretty formidable combination of size, strength and some speed.

He has good close dribbling so he can actually run with the ball most of the time. But he's a step below the Pogba/SMS types who can slalom defenders.

He has technique to hit long shots and long passes. Sometimes it's erratic though.

I would say he's like a 8/10 in most areas of the game but never really a 10/10 in one strength. He could use some seasoning overall because sometimes his decision-making is too ambitious.

And for people doubting his pedigree, he did originally start out at Bayern.

I think Klopp's style in no way fits him. He lacks the acceleration and agility to press like Klopp wants so sometimes he will be a step late and look horrible to casual fans. But as a Juve fan you know he will never be asked to do these things so you erase them from your evaluation.

If he is in a compact team and the opponent has to try and play through him, he will knock them down and take the ball most of the time.

What you say really fits into Serie A.

It's not that I would mind him here but imo this signing yells out the fact that he's gonna be a starter here and that goes without a doubt imo. He will make us stronger but I don't see him being a difference in our CL fight.

That being said, I kind of hope we end up signing Sergej.

I meant physical appearance obviously :p
Ya I know what you meant. I was just pointing out to the noobs that they are drastically different. Even if they were born twins in appearance it would take 30 seconds of watching them play to see the difference.

I think initially he will be seen as a starter. I agree he won't be a match winner type in the CL. But I don't think it'll be a situation where he's guaranteed starting XI for 2-3 years. There will be competition eventually, there always is.
