Roma hand over Emerson Friday 9 July, 2004

Roma have given Juventus the green light to complete the signing of star midfielder Emerson.
"We need to take into account the fact that we are forced to sell him," sporting director Franco Baldini told Radio Incontro today.
"As the saying goes, it is better to have two wounded soldiers rather than a dead one…
"It would be a costly error if we keep him until his contract expires. It would also be a mistake on a footballing level too.
"Emerson already has his head, and more than that, elsewhere."
Baldini was commenting on the fact that the Brazilian has a verbal agreement to join the Bianconeri.
He’s been handed a four-year contract but Juventus have yet to sort out a fee with the Giallorossi.
They have reportedly offered around £7m for the player who has less than a year left on his current deal.
Roma had threatened to keep hold of the international unless a £13m bid was tabled - a figure Real Madrid and Inter are both prepared to pay.
Yet Roma seem to have resigned themselves to losing the ace for less given that he desperately wants to join the Turin club.
The Olimpico outfit are still in some financial trouble but Baldini reassured fans that Francesco Totti and Antonio Cassano would remain.
"They are key figures in our project," he added. "The Bari youngster has proved his worth on the pitch and he is destined to become Totti’s heir.
"I believe that Cassano is now mature enough to be named as our vice captain. That’ll be up to Coach Cesare Prandelli to decide though."
we will have him soon.
