No, a 4411 involves a deep lying striker and a traditional midfield. The wingers defend and attack one central midfielder needs to destroy, and one needs to create. In a true 4231 the wingers abandon their defensive duties and are effectively wing forwards. To play a 4411 successfully you need 2 incredibly fit wingers - kuyt esc. For the 4231 you dont. You need 2 defensive central midfielders. Infact, they are completely different formations
What if one winger tracks back and one doesn't?

Then it becomes a custom formation
In that case, a huge number of systems must be seen as 'custom systems' and so there is very little point in arguing about what label to put on a formation, unless a team is playing in a really orthodox fashion.

Your welcome

Heh, I love that. One must destroy.

Don't worry, with Sissoko in there, plenty of play will be destroyed.
most notably our creativity!

Its still a 4231, it just means one winger is fitter than the other and its less offensive, it doesn't change the fundamentals. And going by that argument anyway you could say there is no such thing as a formation anyway. Rendering our discussion redundant

Formations can only give vague ideas.

It's the players and the tactics that make a system.
