IMO Wingers and Mids are totally diff things. I preferred melo/marchisio to worry about defense then having mids pull back then push all the way back up.

In a true 4231 the wingers abandon their defensive duties and are effectively wing forwards. To play a 4411 successfully you need 2 incredibly fit wingers - kuyt esc. For the 4231 you dont. You need 2 defensive central midfielders. Infact, they are completely different formations
