Marotta: 'Juve focused on Dzeko'
Saturday 10 July, 2010
“We are focusing our attention on Edin Dzeko and counting on the fact he wants to join us,” declared Juventus chief Beppe Marotta.
The Bianconeri had been in advanced negotiations for both Wolfsburg striker Dzeko and CSKA Moscow winger Milos Krasic.
However, the sudden decision by the FIGC to allow only one non-EU player to join Serie A clubs per season rather than two has changed their plans.
“Forced to choose between Krasic and Dzeko due to the limit on non-EU players, we are focusing our attention on the striker,” director general Marotta told Tuttosport newspaper.
“It is a difficult negotiation process, as the Germans will not release him easily and their demands remain very high, but we are counting on the fact he wants to join us.”
Dzeko is also of interest to Manchester City, but the Wolfsburg hitman has made his intentions clear.
“I want to clarify that this is not an issue of money, but of ambition,” he told German magazine Kicker.
“I feel the need to take a step up in quality and join a big club. This is an important moment in my career and I explained that to the Wolfsburg directors.
“I have a splendid rapport with them and am sure they’ll make my wish come true.”
Meanwhile, in order to raise funds to complete the Dzeko swoop, it’s reported Juve will sell Mauro Camoranesi to Olympiacos.
Also ready to depart are Tiago Mendes, David Trezeguet and Zdenek Grygera.
