Why would Marotta say that he is our objective in recent interviews if "the case was closed" since last month?

The case closed comment could be "bluff" kind of thing. Since City has pulled out, we're the only ones left, so if they wanted to sell they have to lower their asking price. They have signed Mandžukić, so I think they expected someone(Dzeko) to leave.

All of this could just be wishful thinking though.

If Agnelli said he wants to give us a gift (the fans) and he decided upon Dzeko then how is it going to make him look if he fails to deliver? I think he made a commitment to his fans and wants to deliver otherwise no one will take him seriously going forward.

There are no other "gifts" we are going after other than Dzeko, so if he wants to show the fans what he can do and the clubs strength then he needs to pull this deal through. (IMO, how I see that specific situation)
