When it comes to finishing, I do agree. This despite of RVP's brilliant goal tally last season. I just think RVP would suit our way of playing better. None of them are arriving, though, so the discussion is rather pointless in the end.

We're now looking at Mandzukic and Destro.

Destro would be somewhat of an underwhelming signing, after all these expectations. But, I'm not entirely against it. I do like the look of that kid. If he has the potential to develop even further, I think it could be a very good signing. It would rule us out as CL-winners and perhaps even semi finalists, but I'm a scudetto-man myself :D

:disagree: :sigh:

Conte played with champions. I'm sure he understands the need to have a world class attacker in the team, and Destro just ain't it. I mean, the man played with Zidane, Davids, DP, and Trez. He can't be that delusional and stubborn, can he?

He's not the one with the money, that's Agnelli. We lost about 95 million euros last year and we'll have a significant lost for this year too. We can't splash the cash ala City.

Lower your expectations, it will only do you some good.

I think that the only way a true top striker will come (Not necessarily an established one, but an up and coming player who are on wages that can be substantially increased without hurting the bottom line too much) is if both Matri and Quag are offloaded.

What I think is going to happen is that Destro (no, he will not be the top striker, but the backup to said player) is all but a formality :D, and then you will see another player along the lines of a Lewandowski type of talent come on board to be the main striker.

With a 3-5-2 formation, the SS striker position will be well covered with Vucinic and Giovinco. You will then see the other postion covered by Destro (again as the backup), and whichever new forward is brought on board.

That is just my opinion.

In the 4-3-3, the front line will most likely feature a combination of Vucinic/Giovinco/Pepe and said striker.

It's a little hard to do it when after winning the scudetto Juve's GD comes out to say how it was enough with the quantity and we will now concentrate only on buying one or two top quality players i.e on adding the icing on the cake. After that he mentions RVP and Cavani.
Then the next thing he does is to buy 3-4 players in 15 days and show strong interest in 2-3 others, named Destro, Veratti etc.

Hello hold on there..Then how is that ,we've have been able to spend 50m this year mostly on depth whilst not addressing our main weakness ?It seems to me that the board have once again we've chosen quantity over quality buys.

I'm fully aware of Juventus' financial situation but i have to say that we've got our priorities wrong here.

I disagree with what Treq is saying, but I doubt we are short changing our main priority to financial considerations, its the biggiest and most difficult task so it will require longer time and us waiting on raising funds by sales. We have time since over two months left til mercato closes. We have signed "depth" because we need it, Isla, Asamoah, Giovinco, Giaccherini, Caceres, all signings we needed.

I know that depth is needed but when somebody comes and tells to me that Juventus are in debts and cant spend big money whilst spending 50m already on depth purchases ,i dont buy it.

It's looking more and more likely we'll go another summer without a top-quality CF signing. Buying Destro isn't sufficient, I'm not sure he's any better than Matri at the moment -- I'm all for nurturing potential champions -- but Conte and Marrotta need to keep in mind that from here on in we need to constantly qualify for the UCL... and Serie A is going to be VERY competitive next season and even harder to reach the top 3. Also, crashing out of the UCL early won't look so great. We need a top signing to be competitive on all fronts. We need a true champion finisher.

Fully agreed.

It will be disappointing if we don't sign a top player in attack, but all the signings Osman mentioned were needed. Maybe not Isla, but still..

Thanks buddy.

I try to keep a sense of levelheadedness when it comes to this stuff, especially since we are in the infant stages of the mercato.

There is a long way to go.

When it comes to hockey and the Montreal Canadiens however, I am a stark raving luantic in the NHL Thread :D
