If no one offers him more than 50% of what he is earning now, how much do you think the offers will be one year down the line after he's rotted on the bench?
He's not that stupid, he knows he needs to leave to get playing time and get the call for the World Cup.
Also, he's still an asset so teams will try to offload his high salary by lowering the transfer fee.

Top 5 squad? I’d say more like top 3 with a good shout at being first in terms of quality, experience and depth.
Not sure how many remember but there was actually a rather popular international Eurosport weekly(or maybe monthly?) show about best/top clubs ranking that was considered rather legit back in those days, circa 2003-2006 we were often ranked 1st based on many factors such as consistency in results, squad quality and club value etc.

I remember that one too, which was showing similar clips but was focused more on actual game/league highlights rather than doing a ranking.

I think i found it, the show was called Top 24 clubs rankings/countdown, though unfortunately the official eurosport pages about it had been archived on all of the .com , .fr and .ro eurosport websites that i checked, can only see a trace of it via google search.
