The problem is, you can't be #9 at a big club and only be relevant in the opponents 16 as a poacher. The last one I remember who could do that was Inzaghi. The classical 'fox in the box' isn't really used in modern day football that often anymore.

If you compare him to Kane, Benzema, Lewandowski, Oshimen or which ever elite striker, they all play an important role in the build up play as well. Heck, even someone like Giroud - to his capacities - played an important role in the build up play.

Unless you're anbsolute prolific machine in the box like Haaland or prime Suarez you could get away with only being present in the box. But yeah, those are 30 goal strikers per season.

The first touch, fighting defenders, holding the ball and link up play its what's letting him down.

Yeah so pretty much almost everything, he can't help a lot in the build up, can't hold on to the ball under pressure and isn't a killer in the box. He's just not good enough. Not bad, but nowhere near elite level.

I do think he's a solid 15-20 goal striker per season in Serie A. I just don't think Motta will get the most out of him or this current Juve squad.

Ideally you'd want him next to someone Tevez or Dybala in a 4-4-2 / 3-5-2-. Having a SS close to him so he can focuses on finishing. He's weak as f in the air so don't expect much when you're crossing. But yeah, in no means a player worth 80M

Good post but this club turns on strikers regardless if they good in box or good in build up.

Higuain dybala and Ronaldo all got turned on by fans.

It’s time to admit juventus just hates attacking players

That's also very much true. We're not much different than Chelsea or Atletico when it comes to our strikers. Very hard for goal scorers to play the majority of your time in your own half.

But that's been our problem since the Sarri-days: we want to play more offensive football and move on from the 3-5-2. But everything has been a failure so far and I reckon project Motta won't be much different.
