I don't think he lacks confidence at all. He is a player who wants to do his own thing and doesn't really care as long as he makes the dough. Villa fans mentioned this repeatedly, where they said he can only work with a hard working DM next to him. Now I understand. The dude is lazy as fuck, just wants a free role to roam around without having to do anything difficult, and maybe put in a pass here and there.

Just because he's not in the proper rotation now doesn't mean he's already written off and is a flop, some players need longer to understand what the coach needs tactically, and to get into good shape. There's always more possibility of that with a higher transfer fee like his, but the guy hasn't even played yet to judge. He had one pretty garbage game and Motta isn't stupid, there's obvious work to do for him to get up to speed.
