Luiz is asked to step into the shoes of a leader. It will be up to him to take Juventus by the hand in the first round of the year. Thiago Motta is expecting that the Brazilian rises to be a leader on a technical and a character point of view. The coach wants to entrust the keys of the play to the player born in 1998: it will be up to him to dictate the rhythm of the maneuver and provide more depth. [TuttoSport via @AroundJuventus]

Maybe wasn’t 100% fit or not sharp enough for this one, but might as well be just that Motta made a tactical/rotational choice given the level of opposition.

He’ll start in the more important games most likely, beginning from Verona i’d assume.

Love this, let our first team players stay underrated so that richer teams don't try to poach them, and they get to rest instead of flying around the world for international friendlies.

Also means teams more likely to underestimate us in Europe. Similar thing happened last cycle in Allegri's first years.

That's how I see it. Como is a minnow of serie a. I know one poster here disagreed last year when I posted a group backups on Juve should beat these low level squads. It's a hopefully very long season for the team. Know it's the first match, but any less wear and tear on Luiz's body over the long haul will be beneficial.

Could say it's a bit of genius on Motta's part taking advantage of seeing what Samuel could do against an inferior opponent not hampering Juve's chances to win. I assume if he played poorly to start without a Juve lead, probably would have been subbed out sooner than later. Now Motta has info on Samuel he didn't even positively know.
