Luiz was the fourth most valuable center mid in the premier league, according to transfermrkt, and Juve got him for a couple squad players and 28M. I’d say that’s a good deal. If I didn’t know about the original deal that included McKennie, I’d be even more excited, and I liked Barrenechea.
I gotta be honest, I dont really care about Barrenechea or Iling Jr. Both are fine talents, but it's not like we're sacrificing a Soule or Huijsen (which I'm fine with for other deals) here to make the deal. I'd feel the same about someone like Hans Nicolussi

As long as McKennie is sold later in the summer for a fair price, I'm more than happy with how this turned out.

According to villa fans and Mr. Good Ebening, Luiz isn't regista or mediano. He can play in front of defence but he was inconsistent there. His best position/role is more advance as boxtobox/mezzalla. He need a more physical player to cover him.

I don't know but maybe Motta like his midfelder to be balanced physically and technically.

Maybe our mid will have much rotational position in game. No one going to be mediano or regista all game and they take turn to each other roles. It's understandable as Motta likes relational football that don't depend on fix positional/area.

Thing is I don't see motta using him as a regista, or anyone as a regista for that matter as his tactics is more about collective trust and movement on and off the ball so we wont have a designated regista so to say. Luiz is definitely a more all round midfielder and will suit a more box to box role

pretty much, he has been interviewed talking about how much he values versatile players; explains Luiz and the pursuits of Koop and Thuram.

Should Illing and Enzo not be worth more than 22 combined. Seems a bit low to me.
Yes, it depends
It still better to sell Barrenechea separately rather than include in this deal if we want to get a better value. Based on transfermarkt Iling Jr. €13m and Barrenechea €7.5m for combined €20.5m.
Even some more unknown academy player in EPL from Chelsea and Villa are valued more : Kellyman is €22m from Villa to Chelsea while only played handful game for them mostly in EL. Dobbin €10.5m from Everton to Villa and Iroebugnam €10.5m from Villa to Everton. Both only played total around 10 matches or less as subs for the club

€50m valuation for Luiz would be better in terms of ammortization for annual cost for us

Don't take the Aston villa, Everton and Chelsea deals at face value. All 3 of them were heavily at risk to cook some profit before 30th June or face consequences. So they came up with this scheme of buying eachothers youth players or loaned out youngsters for inflated prices.

Newcastle also at risk, so they are joining the fray by also rumoured to do inflated deals with Everton.

Nah its fair enough, Iling jr had higher expectations, but expiring contract and dissapointing output makes him a 15m player. Couple years ago we expected him to breakout maybe and be minimum 30m player.

Barrenchea is fair value. He is 23 year old ok depth player who only senior team experience is short loan at a relegated team. Otherwise been mainly U23 player with little expectations.

Agree15 mill for Illing is fair. But I read numbers like 15-20 mill for Enzo after the season he had, so a bit disappointed. I like the player we got, but I don’t consider this deal a “masterpiece”. If Wes had been part of it, then it would have been.

Yeah I think Barrenechea will turn into a really good player. But that's okay, we need somebody now.

Hope Barry finds the right environment to grow at Villa, and the EPL fits Iling much better anyway. Good for him.

The thing with selling those kids in EPL is inflating their prices to show the league that they sold players and got x amount of money...basicly plusvalenza.
The same thing only we were punsihed for and merda, nipples, atalanta and others weren't.

So undervaluing Illing, Enzo on our side and Douglas on their side is a smart move for us...and Villa still gets the their plusvalenza.

it is a very dumb move, even for giuntoli to release an entire group of young players and scrapping the youth project in one transfer season.
iling gone means we will have to endure another season with the pseudo footballer kostic which is criminal.
Entire group, sure. The point of our youth project isn't just to bring them into the first team each season, but to use some to generate money for the mercato or deals like this. We aren't flush with money so you'll see this happen. You'll find big clubs will inevitably sell more of these players than they keep. You aren't obliged to use your youth players, you can trade for better players, but it's good to retain some for European squad lists.

For example, if you get upset about Dragusin getting sold and then De Winter getting sold and then Huijsen potentially getting sold, and so on, and this is just from the past few years, then it's kind of missing the point of how successful the youth project has been for us. Personally I'd prefer Dragusin to Gatti but it's easy to make all these calls in hindsight.

I also don't expect Kostic to be either here next year or a regular player.

20 years into Tuzdom, and people still take Turks trolling negative moans act seriously.

We getting a much better more established player for spare parts in financially constrained time for club. And the lamentations and argument against is because losing youth?

Barrenchea is 23. Douglas Luiz is 26.

Make that make sense.
