Borussia gems under observation
Friday 18 February, 2005
Borussia Dortmund’s financial crisis could lead to a number of their star players heading for Serie A in the summer.
The German outfit, who beat Juventus in the 1997 Champions’ League Final, may be forced to sell their biggest assets in a bid to avoid bankruptcy.
Despite regularly receiving crowds of close to 80,000 at the Westfalen Stadium, they expect their losses for the financial year ending in June to reach almost £50m.
That has inevitably led to reports that they will be forced to sell some of their star players at the end of the season.
Tomas Rosicky, a Czech international midfielder, is arguably their most valuable player and he may be set for the peninsula.
The 24-year-old has been linked with Juventus in the past and they could renew their interest in the starlet.
Rosicky’s international teammate, striker Jan Koller, is another who Italian clubs will consider purchasing.
While Inter are being associated with German international stopper Christoph Metzelder who is also at the club.
Borussia, who have collected 10 points in their last four matches, are the Bundesliga's only publicly-listed club on the stock exchange.
Club President Reinhard Rauball said: "We will find a rescue package."
