We are thinking about getting a dog. Since it will be our first I thought I'd get some feedback from some who already have owned one or own one.

What is to think about before getting one? How is it that one has to deal with it? Etc.

About the race we are mostly thinking of a black Schnauzer.

I might be getting another Great Dane this summer. They are a great breed if you enjoy 130+lbs lap dogs.

I like the Great Dane also but I think it's better if one has a large outdoor place.

That's a common misconception. Of course as puppies Danes require a lot of yard time. As they get older they become quite docile and mostly just want to lay around. With exception of a couple "business" trips a day, they usually only require a short morning walk, not really required, and a long evening walk. So basically one long walk a day as an adult.

They can be quite krazy as any dog can. Our last one named Drake was known for spontaneous sprinting around the backyard before "signing the paper" on his "business" trip.

    Shnauzers are pretty cool too.;)

I got a Fox terrier, his name is Napoleon. I've him for a month or so, he is small and really really charming, is a beautiful dog. The problem is they don't like to be alone (at least Napoleon doesn't like to), so if you spend a lot of time out, I don't recommend it.

I don't like dogs, but I have to admit that they have something elegant about them. The only dog I'd get is a labrador. I used to have a labrador and a German Shepherd in Zambia and my grandfather had a labrador as well. I guess that's why I like them.

i had a german shepherd, and my cousins have a 3 and and half year old german shepherd, really cool dogs, but need a lot of time and exercise, dogs are a huge commitment, there are a lot of things to consider, but generally the most important thing is (especially i think in your case where money is probably not an issue) if you can spend enough time with it

I love dogs, especially big ones.

Golden retrievers are my favourite, followed closely by the shorter-haired labradors. I also have a soft spot for German Shepherds.
