I'm just starting out doing some freelance web design work. I'm working on some projects here and there and I'm still building my portfolio, and I had the idea of asking you guys if you need a site made.

If any of you guys are interested, give me a description of what you're after, and if the project interests me and you're serious about it, I'll contact you to discuss details and give you a quote for it (obviously you guys get mates' rates).

I'm not talking about customising your blogspot site or anything, by the way. I'm talking about a full-fledged, full-featured site on its own domain.

I'm developing my sites with Wordpress under Thesis (a $164 developer framework), and I'm talking about a fully functional website.

    Burke will eat you alive.
    Explain?

    It's his line of business.:D
Oh, really? I had no idea. I'd be interested to see what kind of stuff he does.

I'll pm you when the time comes gray. Any examples of your website bro ?
Onetop Soccer is the first site I made. In hindsight I can see a ton of stuff I don't like about it that I'd change if I had to re-do it, and to be honest it's not really representative of my design aesthetic.

One that's more up my alley in terms of aesthetics is New Life Community Church (my own church, actually), though I'm still working on that one (ironing out some Internet Explorer issues).

    I also made a site once :D

    www.ump.ba

    Terrible, I know :D
It's actually not too bad :)

I know you didn't ask, but the things I'd suggest are:

    * IMO it would look better with some white space at the top, so the page doesn't look squished.

    * Make that big yellow/blue bar separating left sidebar thinner, and extend it all the way to the header.

    * Change the image in the body of the front page to a different image - a smiling person in a suit or something. It looks weird having the main logo in both the header and on the front page.

    * Left justify the text heading so it's consistent with the rest of the text.

    * The "Projects" menu is confusing when it's expanded because of the non-clickable headings.

Your coding isn't bad, but it looks a bit messy and there's a bunch of unnecessary stuff in there, like empty paragraphs and some monstrous style declarations ;)

    Code:
    <p style="text-align: justify;">&nbsp;</p>
    <p style="text-align: center;">&nbsp;</p>
    <p style="text-align: center;">&nbsp;</p>
    <p style="text-align: center;">&nbsp;</p>
Hang on, I'll do a mock-up for you.

Again, you didn't ask, but I'll give my feedback.

The site has some good content, but the page suffers from a lot of clutter. It doesn't give the eyes a clear indication as to which is the most important content, and all the content kind of blends into each other.

There's also no sense of alignment, and too much visual inconsistency in the fonts and colours, and those titles (for 'Forecast Quick Look' and 'Featured Video') look awful and are bad for SEO because they're images rather than text.

This is the kind of site that could be really great with a redesign and rebuild with a powerful CMS.

Thanks Gray for the help, like I said, I know its terrible, I'm a lawyer, not a web designer :D

It's a page of an NGO that I was working with, and I tried to convince them to pay for a proper webpage to be designed but they didint (or couldnt) find the money, so the whole budget was spent on the domain and hosting costs. The previous webpage was hideous and on a free .tk domain ffs :D

Anyways, no coding was done by me whatsoever, the page was done through squarespace and its graphic user interface.

Anyways, doesnt matter really, since I'm not in Bosnia anymore and the people who worked with it before are doing other things we wont be updating it or working on it anymore, we'll let the hosting run out next month.

    Ahh, ok.

Still, it was a nice exercise in critique and problem solving for me :)
