except for glasses (but not coffe cups) and the bar everything else (including kitchen complete with a dishwasher) is seperate. they use the same ketchup but you know that comes in packets.

all this creates a lot of unneccessary work, imagine having to go all the way to the end of the kitchens to get something when you have the same thing (but not kosher) right there. add to that that cutterly and plates are heavier and the fact they they ask for 3 types of tea and a lot of decaf and you know in my possition you cant help not liking jewish people. :D:D:D:D (nothing racist)

Have a nice trip Sarah. You should find halal food no probs. You just have to ask around when you get there. Zidane is muslim I dont know how strict but he mustve brought halal meat. In spain I didnt have much of a problem with getting meat cause of the large morrocan population.

question. Isn't there a rule in Islam where.. gosh how do I explain this in English. Like we could eat meat from the countries that our previous prophets had sent their messages too? Like Israel. I think we are allowed to eat Israeli food in Israel because historically they were of the same religion as us loooongggg time ago when the previous prophets came.

Ok. I know I'm not explaining this well. :D

Does that mean you can eat food prepared by Christians?

some people at first think that the word "kosher" and "halal" are the same, and interchangeable... in other words, if it "kosher" to the jews, then it is "halal" to muslims. This is not the real case.

it is theoretically true that muslims can eat food "prepared" by those of the "ahli kitab" (like aressandro and sally said)... ie. theorically muslims can eat meat prepared by jews and christians, BUT it depends on what your own countries' fatwa council decide on...

I do not know about other countries' religious council, but here in Malaysia, our own Malaysian National Council Of Fatwa has decided that there are no more Jews who still uphold their holy book (Taurah) in the world today. The Original Taurah have been altered. And as i'm a sunni follower here in malaysia, who abides by the fatwas set by my country, therefore by definition, "kosher" meat itself may actually be "haram" for me to consume... it is the same with meat prepared by christians... Since both christians and jews no longer uphold their respective holy books (according to muslim belief anyway), so food prepared by them is NOT halal to consume by muslims...

"kosher" and "halal" is NOT the same thing....

For meat to be "halal", it must be slaughtered by a "muslim" (seafood of course is halal since u need not slaughter your crab)... Other than that, the ingredients involved in preparation of the food must be halal... No alcohol, among other things....

My advice when you're in a foreign country? If you REALLY want to watch out for "halal" food, then ONLY eat at restaurants by muslims (moroccan, turkish etc)... or, survive on tuna sandwiches......

This is a small link representing malaysia's stand on "kosher" and "halal"

As far as I know, visiting or living in a foriegn country food restrictions are less stringent. Sometimes you have no choice but to eat food prepared the way it is in that country. But ofcourse Muslims should avoid pork and alcohol at all costs.

    Am I right, Dharurat?

I dont think so Gray. I mean as we muslims see it we were the original followers of the Torah and Bible, but we believe it has all been altered and thus has the new followers (I hope this term isn't offensive) so realistically in Islam the 'original people of the books' no longer exist.

no,, by our definition the true follower of the book of Jesus shouldnt beleive that Jesus himself is God and should acknoledge that there should be another prophet after Jesus that they must follow which is Muhammad... ... you know.. something like why Jews dont accept Jesus..;)

so how do you manage then?
there are people who distribute halal meat and chicken to non muslim countries... we can also survive on seafood...and if all those efforst still fails.. we can be forgiven to eat other food as long as they are not strictly pork and alcohol....we could manage pretty well actually....

Thanks for the explanations guys :)

Just a question: If Muslims believe that Allah has created all animals, how can one of his creations be considered unclean to eat? Also, do Muslims believe that Adam (humans) was given dominion over all animals?
