As Majed said, it's all down to what God wants, but AFAIK most athletes don't pray for victory or anything like that. Personally, before I step onto the pitch, I ask that God would let me represent him well (sportsmanship, not getting into fights and whinging to the regeree, humility).
Take Jesus for example. Before he was taken away and crucified, Jesus prayed to God:
"Abba Father", he said, "everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will." - Mark 14:36
Jesus is pretty much saying, "God, I know that you can send down legions of angels to fight and rescue me from my captors,
but I want your will to be done, not mine".
In the same way, a mature believer would pray "God, of course i want to win this game, but i leave it upto your will". It's an act of submission, of faith.
