We may have mistreated him, but the same was not true at Wolfsburg. He was a shit disturber, and a couple of public spats with the management prove this. He wasn't a failure at Juventus, but he only has himself to blame for whats happened at Wolfsburg. Not listening to your coaches orders (pk incident), and walking out on your team ahead of a crucial relegation battle because you were benched, is wrong any way you look at it, even if they were treating him like shit.
Diego could have been a great player for us, if we had him and Gio this season with Miloš on the right side a CL place would have been guaranteed, I'm sure of it. With Melo and Momo behind breaking up attacks and protecting the pathetic D, GIoe, Diego and Miloš behind Quag would have been fantastic.

Yes he "failed" here but that was not necessarily his fault, since he was playing with horrible footballers(Grygera, Amauri, Iaquinta, Grosso, etc.).
Yes, this year he flopped at Wolfsburg and misbehaved but that probably has something to do with his failure here. When he got here, he was hailed as our new gem and as the player who was going to win the scudetto for us and he left bitterly the summer after. This undoubtedly had an impact on him.
I was against his arrival from the beginning since he was always going to chance our formation. We had played 4-4-2 for several years and we had not the tools and an experienced coach to adapt. We needed a regista and we got a DM(Melo), we needed a winger(to replace Camo/Nedved) and we got a trequartista, we needed solid fullbacks and signed Grosso, etc.
You guys are too harsh. Diego was a great player in Germany before coming here but lots of things did not go well here.
I'd argue that Krasic was not better for us than Diego. Both are good players but they can't constantly perform well when they are surrounded by shit.
I'd have kept Diego, Trezeguet, Caceres and Giovinco this season. However, Marotta did not think like that.

That would certainly do better. Giovinco and Krasic working into space. Who worked into space for him with an older, slower DP and Amauri being Amauri? The other issue was that Melo was simply not on form in that season and failed to protect him. Moreover, that 3 man midfield lacked a player that could provide Diego with the ball which forced him to backtrack and retrieve the ball himself forcing him out of position.
He failed at Porto and Wolfsburg (so far) too, teams who were ambitious and looking to him. So basically he had his breakout at his first club Santos with Robinho and his spell with Werder Bremen where everything seemed to click into place. Seems with Diego that you have to give him everything he wants. That becomes dangerous, when you focus too much on one player you become predictable, and he is no Zidane or even a world class AM to warrant that. So far his career reads 'what might have been', for his sake he needs to find the right environment and a team/coach who will give him everything, maybe someone from 6th-10th.
Doesn't that hold true for most players? It's always advisable building your team on a system rather than a player, per se. No player, even the super talented ones can hold a team together on the pitch an entire season. And its not wise either, incase that fulcrum gets injured, the entire team collapses. Diego is worth any team that has the right personnel. He'd make a fantastic team player if there are a couple of leaders around him because he himself doesn't have the temperament to lead a team. For some, it burdens their game. And it happened to him at Juve and Wolfsburg. Let's not expect him to win a title anywhere, because he's expected to carry an entire team. Its unrealistic and unfair to expect someone to fit in and bring results in one season. Most players in his place would struggle.
What's so special about Diego that he deserves a whole team being built around him? He's not good enough. There are a few players who warrant that, Diego isn't one. Any player would look good with players built around them to fit but it isn't about Diego it's about Juventus, I'm not a fan of being tactically reliant on one player, so forget Diego.
Please re-read my post that you quoted. I'm not saying the team should be built around him. I'm not saying he's a special talent that deserves more than the 10 other players playing with him. I'm not saying that he should've been treated like caviar at the clubs he's been at.
