Diego is not a SS even if it says we're playing 4-4-2

He'll always be behind Amauri/Trez (Man, that can sound so wrong). So yeah, it's normal he'll score less than Del Piero as they are different type of players.

Diego probably makes more assists than Del Piero, which is again normal.

Krasic will help Diego, not only because he’s a quality winger, but he will remove some pressure off his shoulders as Diego is considered our only quality attacking player.

I hope we sign him.

His goal record at Werder was nearly 1 in 2 over his entire time there. Where he played more like a support striker. I would be happy with that.
More like 1 in 2.5

And this is for all competitions.

Not really bad, but not good enough for someone who is still a striker and who played in an open league like the Bundesliga. As Andy said, we're now playing a system that heavily relies on the strikers for the goals. If we have a poacher who guarantees 25-30 goals in all competitions, we could do with a support striker who will score 10-15 goals. But with Amauri and Iaquinta, we will need someone, like Del Piero used to do, who will score minimum 20 goals a season.

It will be brilliant if we can get Dzeko without losing Diego (Since we obviously won't change the 4-4-2).

Diego's goal scoring numbers in his last year at Bremen were pretty good. 22 goals in 39 games (all comps) is pretty good for an AM.

If we could get some proper support in the midfield, so the player didn't have to drop back as much, we might be looking at a player who scores in that 20 goal range (all comps)... I think it's possible. Certainly needs more than 5 weeks of preseason football to make the proper adjustments though.

And if we put a prolific scorer next to Diego, and had a proper midfield...

Krasic will help Diego, not only because he’s a quality winger, but he will remove some pressure off his shoulders as Diego is considered our only quality attacking player.

Totally agree. He a physical player with excellent pace, and solid technique. He'd add a dynamic that this team doesn't have, and I think he's miles ahead of our current wingers... plus he's dying to join the team, which is a nice bonus.

I got my figures from wiki at 2.2 a game (but they are probably wrong).

I dont think that our system necessarily means that we will rely on a poacher. With Martinez, Pepe, Lanzafame we should have some wingers able to contibute some goals. We just need to get this into our play.

But I agree that we could do with more of a goalscorer upfront.

^^

how was Kaka's record for Milan?

I think they're similar style players right?
Kaka had better numbers, but even if he didn't and he had the same numbers, there were other players in Milan who were also scoring lots of goals. Sheva, Inzaghi, Seedorf, even Pirlo.

In our current team it's logical to expect most of the goals to come from the strikers. Even when we had midfielders who were also scoring goals, Del Piero and Trez were banging +20 goals a year. Right now I don't see strikers of such caliber in Juve.

This isn't a question if Diego should play SS in the current team. He should because we have no better choice after Del Neri made it clear that we'll play 4-4-2.
But if we're keeping Diego as a SS then we better think where will the goals be coming from and act on that.
