Hamburg are prepared to negotiate with Juventus on the chance to exchange Diego and Christian Poulsen for Eljero Elia and Dennis Aogo.
Il Corriere dello Sport understands that the offer was made after the two sides met for a friendly match in Lubecca on Sunday.
Hamburg are said to have made Diego their No 1 transfer target this summer and feel that Juventus’ interest in Elia could be used as leverage.
Diego is still fondly remembered in Germany following his successful spell at Werder Bremen where he established himself as one of the finest players in the Bundesliga.
Juventus are unsure about the Brazilian’s long-term future in Turin, as Gigi Del Neri likes to play a 4-4-2 with an emphasis on the wings.
The Bianconeri have already signed Jorge Martinez and Simone Pepe for those positions, but want more options as demonstrated in their interest in Elia and CSKA Moscow’s Milos Krasic.
