This is for all the respected members who will no doubt call me out on this latest batch of posts. Andy, please skip to the end.

I'm NOT blaming Diego, that was invented by the teethbrusher. Look at my initial post, couple of pages back. It would be stupid and unfounded to blame him (alone) since he's having his first season and quite a few things have just gone shit for us, from the inept board, to coaches, injuries and overall under-par performance from a lot of our players. This whole episode was a response to Andy's (failed) attempt of provocation about Modric.

However, I don't want to see him shielded and exempt from criticism like a lot of people here are doing. Fact of the matter is, Diego was brought here with certain expectations and he has indeed FAILED on them. Our gameplay has not improved, our creativity and flair has not improved, not to mention created chances per game, have not gone up. Sure he can't do everything alone and he really doesn't have much to work with, but all those things were still expected of Diego. That is WHY we have bought him. Whether you classify that as a flop, mild under-achievement or "he's still the best out of this shit-lot", that is fine by me. Just don't go around blaming others for Diego's failure. Don't. His failure is his own, just like every other player's in this team and the team as a whole.

Then again if any of you want to see a light at the end of the tunnel and think of Diego's performace as that light, that's fine by me. I just don't see it that way. I'm not sad we spent 25 mil on him, he's talented and I'll save my personal final verdict on him after next season, but for this year, he doesn't get a passing grade. Like I said, being best out of this shit-pile, doesn't make you good, only less shitty and that isn't enough for me.

Diego = FLOP! FLOP! FLOP!
I agree with some of the points you're trying to convey.

The guy was basically brought in to fill in the void left by Neddy, and solve the creativity problem. I don't know how accurate this is but I don't how people are classifying him as having a great season, he has 3 assists and 5 goals!

I brought up neddy because of two things. The first is the football aspect where neddy was always someone who looks to bring in others and assist. And his big personality. Now I understand its hard to replace some with neddy's personality but he couldn't handle the footballing aspect as well.

We always needed him to change his play, make more runs pass the ball quicker instead of always doing the predictable thing and trying to dwell and dribble. I know that its harder when there are no runs but great players drive those behaviours instigating those actions. But what I saw can be summarised by our last attack against fulham where he was in a great position to pass the ball into the hot spot where Trezi was waiting but his indecision lead him to dwell on the ball and lose that potential chance.

The potential is there, but he needs to adjust his game. He is working extremely hard and trying but don't need him to do everything. He needs to differentiate his game, and we saw that when that happened it was very positive.

I still believe he could be a great player for us. But certainly for me he is not our best player this season.

I wish we sign G. Rossi as a replacement for Diego since Diego is probably going to play SS for us next season, he is true Italian and should play in his country!!!

Well a lot of things are different between the two, Nedved and Diego, not just from their playing characteristics but the overall approach to the game has changed in the team. The new formation tailored for Diego specifically, as opposed to a standard system Nedved was in for years and years. In that aspect we need to give Diego some slack. However, I couldn't agree more when you say he dwells on the ball to much, that is not a characteristic one would want from the only playmaker.

But on thing I can't possibly pin against Diego is his heart and the effort he puts in. For that, he deserves respect and time to prove himself.

Yeah that is true, different players but some of the underlying characteristics should be the same.

The time on the ball is something that he needs to improve. He is surviving this habit only because he is so strong and skillful on the ball. Imagine if he actually varied is approach a bit, made a few runs, first time passes etc. The guy will be an absolute force. Its just disappointing when I see the guy's potential but he keeps making wrong decisions.

The last part is one of the biggest reason many people give him more slack than Melo, Grosso and Canna and I completely agree.

One thing I'd like to see Diego do more is to run at the defense and try to break through their defense even more. Someone with the skill that he has should try his luck even more. If he has no one around to make an offensive pass, then he should try doing more on his own to save this god forsaken team.

Are you on drugs? Otherwise, there is no way to justify wanting that over-rated, inconsistent Villareal wimp, who has hardly been setting La Liga on fire this season over Diego!!! :shifty:

Definitly useless for us, he might be good somwhere else but not here. I'm not attacking him or anything like that, but I'm dissapointed. He really plays like coward, during the week he will say that we are going for Scudetto etc. but on the pitch we see tottaly different attitude. He plays with his heart by always giving 100%, but what exactly he gives? Passes to his closest teammates and occasionaly cross or two. The guy likes to play safe, like he is scared to make a wrong pass/cross/dribble. He have technique and know how to dribble, but how much of thoose we saw, plus not to mention that he likes to dive...

^^ he has nobody to play the ball to, there is no way he can be a success if we keep playing like this...you could Zidane in the current Juve team and he would play like shit

Yep. Diego is clearly a useless footballer when players like Sissoko are backing him up in midfield.

I cannot wait to see a proper coach use good attacking players and proper tactics alongside this guy so we see him flourish. Even more funny to see if those calling for him to be sold would be saying the same thing.

You can't just sell him.

He's still a quality player. Just needs some quality players around him.

In the end, it's all because of upper management. All their shite is trickling down to the pitch

This was made obvious on numerous occassions tonight, yet we still have people questioning his ability.
