He didn't get called up for Brazil again for friendlies, so I guess he probably won't go to the World Cup.
As much as I want to see him represent Brazil and brag about how he's a Juve player, I think it's better this way. He'll stay out of the limelight and the likes of Madrid or Manchester United won't salivate and go all out to get him.

Great game by Diego, to be fair I feel he has been one of the better players the last two games.

This season will show us if he can make the step up to world class status.

Last season he produced performances like the one tonight: sometimes 2 or 3 games in a row, but then he would have mares for similar periods and let the team down

The potential is there, let's hope the consistancy comes also.

It's been said many times, when he is all alone he can't deliver. When he has players like Camo and Giovinco with him, his games steps up automatically. Hopefully Ciro realizes that and won't leave him in a formation like:

Sissoko Melo Poulsen
Diego
Amauri Iaquinta

Instead, they can get their chops out over Julio Baptista :D

I wouldn't say he can't deliver in that situation, it just becomes much more difficult...his early season in the hole behind two strikers worked quite well, as I'm sure most will recall.

However, with two wide players stretching opponents all over the field today he certainly had more room to operate and do what he does best.

The main bonus with playing the creative three is that a team can't justify sticking a man to mark Diego like they do when he is on his own behind the strikers. This has happened several times this season.

Not only that, but it opens up a myriad of passing options and other interlinking plays that aren't possible with a limited player like Iaquinta up front (who basically reduces Diego to looking for over the top passes or through balls while having defenders glued to him). If we were to get a true world class second striker to partner Amauri, I'm sure Diego could prosper as the '1' in a 4-3-1-2 again, as he did in Germany.
