Blanc hails Diego Monday 12 October, 2009

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus’ President in waiting, Jean-Claude Blanc, has praised star man Diego after the Brazilian received criticism in the Press.

The Brazilian ace is yet to settle in at the Olimpico and after a good start his performances have been below par recently.

Diego is always Diego,” claimed the Frenchman.

“It seems like people forgot about the compliments he received after the first few games.

“At the beginning he did really well but then, due to his injury, he slowed down a bit.

“Now he just needs time to recover his 'rhythm’ and show all his class.

“We just need to leave him be and not put too much pressure on him because that won’t help. With patience all his talent and class will arise.”

Zidane took a few months to settle in; Nedved took about 7 months to find his stride when he first joined us. Allow the man to regain full fintess, get a few more games under his belt, and then come February or March, we can start to pass judgement.

Indeed. People need to be patient. It's not like he has had a poor start anyway.

Diego promises to make Juve win
Wednesday 14 October, 2009
Diego believes he can make Juventus win the Scudetto and convince Brazil Coach Dunga to call him up for the World Cup next summer.

The 24-year-old playmaker has shown flashes of brilliance since joining Juventus from Werder Bremen in the summer.

However, injuries have hampered his progress, restricting him to just five appearances in Bianconero.

Speaking to Il Corriere dello Sport, Diego said: “I shoot straight from the hip. I know how all this works. If the results don't help you, then you end up in the eye of a storm. It's a universal rule that is even more marked with regard to the big clubs.

“You always have to win because they impose tradition and ambitions on you, because the quality of the group is very high. If you don't win, they ask you for explanations.

“We have committed unforgivable naiveties considering the strength of the group. If you are Juve, if you think big, then you cannot throw away a victory at the last breath like what happened against Bologna.

“I said that with extreme sincerity and therefore refusing comfort in alibis. Moments like these happen and they don't necessarily become warnings of crisis or of re-dimensioning. I am ready to bet on the project with the same conviction as a month ago, when they only lavished compliments upon us.”

Asked if Juventus are favourites for the Scudetto, Diego replied: “Let's be precise, Juve are among the favourites for the Scudetto. I will not have to eat my words. Actually I'll repeat them stronger. And Juve are among the favourites for the Champions League.”

The former Santos youngster admitted that he is concentrating on winning and not watching Inter.

“I hear the others talking about [rebelling against Inter]. I feel the strong rivalry, I feel it. They tell me about struggles past, of Calciopoli, of Scudetti unstitched [from the shirt]. But honestly, I don't suffer a lot from it. Given my character, I never think about the others. I don't keep an eye out for Inter's result or even the words of Mourinho. I only want to win and win without looking around.”

Finally Diego explained why he decided to join Juventus.

“I chose the Bianconeri because I picked up on this extraordinary level of trust, not only in its great history or for the champions that have played for the club and the success that they promise. The Juventus directors followed me for a couple of years. They wanted me because I could contribute to an important project.

“I will repay them. Be sure of that. The injury has hampered me a little, but now I am ready to start again,”
Diego concluded.
