Diego wants to be fit for Genoa

Diego wants to return ahead of schedule and form part of the Juventus side that travels to Genoa on Thursday night.

The Brazilian playmaker limped off before half time against Lazio on September 12 and was expected to be out for two weeks.

However, Diego feels that his right thigh has healed well and “cannot wait” to start playing again.

Ultimately, the buck lies with Juventus Coach Ciro Ferrara, who will not want to risk Diego especially in view of next week's Champions League match against Bayern Munich.

Diego will be a vital asset in that game, having played in Germany for three years.

The 24-year-old has started his Juventus career in fine fashion, scoring two goals in three appearances.

Speaking after Juventus beat Livorno 2-0 at the weekend, he said: “the team is decisive and motivated. Saturday's victory has allowed us to stay at the top of the table and this is what the fans expect from a team like Juventus.

It's right that it's like this. We are convinced we can win the championship and we are doing everything to realise that objective,” Diego concluded.

Diego admits he perhaps underestimated just how great a club Juventus are when he joined them earlier this summer.

The 24-year-old Brazilian, who was a €24.5m signing from Werder Bremen, is widely regarded as the new star of Serie A.

He has started life in Italy with a bang, scoring two goals in his first three appearances for the Bianconeri.

Speaking to Tuttosport about his first couple of months at the club, Diego said: “The thing that has surprised me is the greatness of Juventus and after that the affection that everyone seems to feel for me, above all the Juventus fans, but I have also noticed a great degree of respect from the supporters of our opponents.”

Asked to explain the secret behind his relatively immediate success in Italy, Diego replied: “I think about showing respect to everybody, perhaps that's what counts. As for the Juventus fans, it's clear that they make me feel important. They give me strength.”

The former Santos youngster went on to give an example of the support Juventus fans have shown him.

“I come to think about the time when we were in Napoli. The crowd was really diverse. The embraces, the Juventus scarves round their necks. They waited for us at the hotel and the restaurant… A branch of my family has Neapolitan origins. The other half is from the north of Italy.”

Finally Diego made no secret of the fact his life has changed a lot since joining Juventus.

“You know the Italians feel a lot closer to us Brazilians than the Germans and this is obviously a pleasant part of life here,” he concluded.

I hope this injury thing doesn't happen a lot. Man, its depressing not seeing Diego on the field. I'm so excited so see more of him. It's like buying a new Ferrari but you're not allowed to use it as much as you want.
