Go ahead and play like that, and be relegated.

Take out one of Messi, Ronnie, Henry or Eto'o and remove Deco. Now replace them with Iniesta and Yaya Touré.

They did, Carlos Alberto that used to play for Porto when they won the CL. He is more of a winger or a second striker rather than a playmaker like Diego, so he probably isn't bought as a replacement.
