I don't agree with that Zach. The thing is, we have our priorities all over the place. With the budget we have for this mercato, we could easily focus all our energies on any one of those three names. Its a matter of being clear as to what we want. When we're spending 30m on Rossi, I know we have the money to make a key signing on LW, which won't only bring the balance we have been missing all of last season, but actually add dimension to our play. If we had the money to pay Aguero's wages, we could easily offer these players a salary they want, and it wont even be as much as Aguero. We just have to want to do it, which in my opinion we don't, because we have a small time sporting director who has been brought up at smaller clubs that work on the rationale of buying a lot of players in cheap deals than buying quality players that make the difference. It's a fallacy to believe that we cant get the above mentioned players only because we don't have champions league to offer one season. Yes, that's a point of discussion for them, but for the right kind of economic offer, they would consider a switch. I've said it before, I'll say it again. Rossi is not needed for 30m when you can get Cassano for 10. Lugano for 3m, Coates for 2.5m. I would spend more than half my budget to get that key player on the left, because it will make or break our season. But then again, Marrotta doesn't have the brains to think that far ahead. He knows if he fails this season, he can blame Conte and buy 11 new players next season again.

Hazard, had a 40 mil offer from the epl rejected. its quite easy to say, we cannot get him

Nani, comming from championsleague runners up, will have 0 interest in us. you can trow all the promises and wages at him, his manager didnt transfer listed him, and if he did, half the epl would be on top of him, before us. its simply impossibale

Ribery, will not leave bayern. he is a key player for the side and technically in his best years given he is 28. bayeren wont allow him to leave before he is 30+.

This is what i mean, you can argue all you want about what we should spend on, but for left wing, there are very few options we can realistically attract, even if we were to splash the entire budget.


cost/value wise, i consider a 15mil purchase on left wing the best we can do, and get a SS for 30 mil if he will generate big commercial succes. else i'd settle with vucinic for 18 or so

What I mean is, knowing what a glaring need the LW is for us, it is the duty if our sporting director to spend all our time and resources, at least a lae part of them on bringing in a game changer in that position. For the sake of argument, if we offered Aguero's wages to any of those three, I can guarantee that they will at least show an interest in joining us. But the point is, we're not even bothering. And that's where I feel we are wrong. It's not impossible, just because we are not in the champions league, especially if we offer them a big team kind of salary, which does two things. Shows, that you value the player, and that you have money and a 'project' to attract certain quality of players. Both of which are key considerations for every professional.

While what you're saying is what will probably happen, It's also what will keep us away from where we belong, because it's a vicious cycle. Imagine if despite signing Rossi, and Bastos/Vucinic, we don't make the CL, where do we go from there? We're not always going to have this much money, and we're certainly not going to be a profitable entity going at this rate, in an FFP world. Let's break the bank for players that matter. Overpay now, so we can climb back to where we belong and then try and play the market on our terms. Till then, we'll always be the ones getting the short end of the stick in every deal, with one good purchase every summer, being the one, that desperately wanted us above everyone else.

also, last summer marotta cleaned up the trash from secco, got us quag, aqua(good for half a season), krasic. pepe is decent for subs, motta failed, and martinez was allways injured

this summer, he did very good so far, and aguero or rossi not comming is down to transfer fee we cant match, or wages we cant afford, rather then marotta inable to sign them

I've spoken extensively about this in Marrotta's thread, so don't want to get into that discussion, coz I think as fans we've lowered our expectations massively, and some of it is down to how the club is being run. I personally think Marrotta is incompetent.
