I can say I want him. He'll see us through two years (hopefully successful ones) and then we can rethink constructing a new group of strikers. But how much money do we even have? I badly want a very good left back signing and Krasic.

If the Iaquinta+10M for Forlan is possible or even Iaq+Tiago+Grosso for Forlan I say we should go for it even if we go for another striker as it would give us depth and quality

We should be looking at quality wingers before going for a striker.

Pepe, Martinez, and Lanzafame are not what one would normally call quality wingers. Gio is on his way out, and Camo might be leaving (he also happens to be very inconsistent, injury prone, and he isn't getting any younger).

Hence, we need one winger of extreme quality with the potential to become World Class.

Trezeguet can still perform, and both Amauri and to a lesser extent Iaquinta can alternate with Trez if he is injured or out of form, especially if DP and Diego will be fighting it out for the SS spot.

Bottom Line: Quality Winger >>> Prima Punta

So what, we are talking €27m for a 31 year old striker now? Great, maybe we can go for broke for one season and then in two years time we have to spend another €30m signing a reasonably aged striker of the same talent. I'd rather we spent the €35m on Dzeko and got 8 years out of him. Our forward line is too old as it is.

Forlan is no Batistuta, and even that guy went downhill quickly:

31yo - 20 goals (scudetto)
32yo - 6 goals
33yo - 4 goals
34yo - transfer to Inter: death of career

I don't think Drogba is a great comparison because he is a physical monster, Forlan is a much different sort of player who relies on not just his skill but his pace and hard work, he does not have a great injury record and personally if we were to sign him it would have to be for a reasonable price. It's a problem because he is a very good player and Atletico Madrid are not going to want to sell him cheaply, but we don't want to be ripped off either.

totally agree, some players lose physical attributes quickly like Batistuta, Henry, Montella, Vieri...etc

I'm not worried, Marotta seems to be pretty cost-efficinet, if we get him it will be at a fair price, which is somewhat below 20M imo.

Cause i sense my point was missed. Forlan used to be a classic goal loser. We need a prolific youg finisher, not a former goal-loser who has aged well. Forlan is now a great player and although i am sure that he is going to score much much less in Italy, than he does in spain, he will sure be a huge upgrade over Amauri+iaq.
But this is not what we want, we need a permanent replacement for treze and that player should be young and a finisher above all. If we invest +20mil on Forlan, Imo we repeat the Amauri mistake once again. Both are good players but not the finisher we want. They are quick fix that consumes the resousces we will need to get a permanent fix. I would rather see us buy a Dzeko for 35-40mil and have him as a starter besides Diego/amauri/giovinco, than spend 20mil for a forlan now and 20 in 2 years for a new Iaq (pazzini). Of course if we sell any of our current forwards, in order to make space and funds to buy Forlan, with 10-15+player then he is all welcomed, but not in the expense of our permanent deal over our new age starter CF. If we can afford only 20mil this year, then keep Treze and buy his succesor with 40mil next year. Enough of this quantity>quality strategy, we cant win nothing this season, lets maximise our chances in the future!

Diego Forlan Reiterates His Desire To Remain With Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan has once again said that he has no interest in leaving the Calderon and playing elsewhere.

The Golden Ball winner at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa, Forlan has been linked with a number of clubs this summer. Italian giants Juventus and Inter, as well as Premier League champions Chesea, had been said to be interested in the striker at some point this summer.

However, the 31-year-old, who led Atletico to Europa League triumph last season, has reiterated his desire to remain with the Madrid-based club and in a press conference on Monday said: "There were no concrete offers from any other team. I don't know anything about possible interest from other teams. This is just another summer with more and more rumours but no concrete offers.

"I just know what I've read in newspapers but nothing came to me, neither from inside or outside the club. Since there are no offers, I wouldn't think about my future [outside Atletico]. I feel comfortable here, I've got three more years of contract with Atletico and I'm happy here. I want to stay at Atletico de Madrid."

Atletico will take on European champions Inter in the UEFA Super Cup later on this month.
