Deschamps: 'I regret quitting Juve'

He may be the Coach of France, but Didier Deschamps admits he “would not leave Juventus” if he could go back to 2007.

The tactician had taken Juve to promotion from Serie B in the post-Calciopoli campaign, but resigned when he felt the club was not 100 per cent behind him.

“I have made some mistakes and I’m sure I’ll make more in future. I hope as few as possible, but it’s inevitable when you have to make decisions,” Deschamps told Sky Sport Italia.

“It was a mistake to quit the Bianconeri and if I could go back in time then I would not leave Juventus.

“Could I coach another club in Italy? I am not thinking about that right now, but it is possible. Why not? You never know...”

The former midfielder also cast his eye over Juve’s current campaign, particularly their run of three consecutive Champions League draws.

“They won the very important match with Juventus and on paper facing a weaker team just a few days later can take you to a drop in concentration.

“It’s tough for everyone, as yesterday Barcelona only won at the last minute and Manchester United had been losing 2-0.

“It is tough to win on a national level, but in the Champions League you must do battle even with the smallest clubs.”

France Coach Deschamps commented on two young Bleus talents who joined Serie A this summer: Milan striker M’Baye Niang and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.

“Niang has great qualities, but off the field he is an immense disaster. Pogba is on the right track for the senior France squad, though.”

Niang has run into a series of problems in recent months, as he was caught driving without a licence and thrown out of the France Under-21 side after escaping the training camp to go partying in Paris just three days before their defeat in the European Championship play-offs.

He went out clubbing with teammates Yann M’Vila, Antoine Griezmann, Chris Mavinga and Wissam Ben Yedder.

and i was really wondering what was going on with that milan youth..

great to know that pogba might be given a run...that no doubt will cement his enthusiasm with us and vindication of him switching from manchester..a huge boost in confidence if he gets a run out with les blues

Legendary player, and in my opinion he should be regarded as one of our most important coaches, because it was so vital to win promotion immediately after our demotion. Yes, we had some terrific players who were too good for Serie-B, but imagine the difficulties in keeping players of that calibre motivated throughout an entire season. Didier did that. And it was no easy task either, starting the season on -17 points.
