Friedel??? :wth:

He's good IMO, but not that good
Did you watch the WC? He was amazing. The guy had ever penalty taker shaken out of thier boots...it was bloody amazing, the best I have ever seen, except Toldo against the Netherlands.

no offence Ian, but i also think VDS is horrible saving pens :)

Dida has very good reflex IMO
I'm gonna go right ahead and agree with you there. I mean, I don't know where y'all got this notion that I have an unrealistic view of Edwin's abilities, but he is not a good penalty saver. He is a big man with good reach, but he doesn't have the instinct for penalties.

Do I remember? What kind of question is that....Believe me, the whole holland squad was just standing there not trying....but don't judge until you've tried to stop a brazilian from scoring a penalty, it's not really fair...

No. Dida is not the best keeper overall, When on form Buffon is much better than Dida, but currently Dida is in better form and therefor better than Buffon AT THE MOMENT.
I was about to take the next plane over to Bosnia until I read the last part of your post :groan:

I think it's beyond doubt that Buffon's the best in the world, and he's achieved much more than Dida, but I think the point of this thread is to discuss certain aspects of Dida's play, and his future potential. He's definitely improving, and we're just wondering how good he'll get.
well, yes, I saw him way better than the CL final... he's getting better I don't think he's going to reach Buffon's level...

    ranking top goalkeepers

    1- Buffon
    2- Toldo
    3- Rustu
    4- Howard
    5- maybe Casillas... Dunno

Easy, Son. There can't be that many koreans in australia.

    We'd find you.:devil::D:D
Actually, there's plenty of Koreans in Sydney, especially in the area i live(d) in. It's sort of like the US i guess, the nationality groups tend to live around central areas, and there's a few suburbs in Sydney where all the shops have been taken over.

There's no real 'korea-town' like there is over there, but there's plenty of unofficial places where there's overpopulation. One of my non-Korean friends who lives in one of these areas came *****ing to me the day after Korea beat Italy, and he was like "Bloody Koreans, I couldn't get any sleep last night cos they're so damn noisy"

I am just curious how is Dida on better form, I mean have you seen all Milan's games or are you basing it on 1 match against Juventus
Its almost like saying Buffon has gone down in form since just 2 months ago he was voted the best player by uefa and he has been playing at the back of some dodgy defending and conceded goals that really were not his fault save for Depedro's free kick
For Italy he was brilliant in serbia and montenegro, made a lot of vital saves for us too this season as well
Now Dida made a very good save against Di Vaio but lets face it it was a nice height for a goal keeper while the other saves were more or less routine, he made a wonderful save against Ajax, I grant you that but Buffon has been making that his stock in trade
Imo I am yet to see a better keeper than Gigi

@ Ian , Friedel has had a horrid season and has definetly had a step down from his great performances from the wc2002 and last season

@csd what is that anyways , is it a disease or something, i mean your new name and is every Juventus player fair game now to you all

I mean this has been our best squad in ages and instead of regaling our players , every one of them are been questioned ability wise
I wonder what would happen if we were playing horribly

Sunshine, if you mean who is playing better now, then yes, Dida is more on form than Buffon, who really hasn't been himself for most of the year.

Granted, 75% of Buffon is better than most GK's out there, but the dominant form is not there yet.

If we are talking about overall skills, then no doubt, Buffon is better.

That shouldn't even be up for discussion, but it's a monday morning, and there isn't much else to do.
Yes yes.... this is what i mean.

To use an American Football reference, Buffon is like a Quarterback out there, he can read the attack patterns and help set up his defensemen's positioning.

I don't remember Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, or John Elway kissing his Running Backs or Wide Receivers, though

The only name i know there is Buffon :D , but, i agree very much on your point about reading the game and handling th defence. I think Gigi does this very well and that 1 of the reason's why sometimes he needs to make saves less often. I wanted to say this earlier, but i had no idea how to phrase it :wallbang:

Thank you for this.... .... at least i know i'm not alone in thinking that it was not his fault.

Agreed. Freidel may be past his prime, but you also can't rule out the possibility that the poor form of the rest of blackburn's team is affecting him. Let's not forget that they lost their two best players (apart from Freidel) in the off-season.

gray, there was once a korean taxi driver in sydney who babbled bout him playing against malaysia in the 60s. just thought u'd like to know.

second, i think buffon's reflexes are amazing! dida might be in better form now but i dont think buffon is really tested yet, besides, buffon is only 25, a passionate player, consistent with his good saves, player of the year last season, so to sum it alllll up,

I THINK BUFFON IS BETTER THAN DIDA!
