Category: General

Juventus boss Didier Deschamps has assured fans that the club will be preparing for a Scudetto push at this time next year.

The Turin giants have found themselves in Serie B for the first time in their history after the Calciopoli verdicts, but the new tactician is confident the outfit will regain their status as one of Europe’s top sides.

“I accepted the project the club presented to me, leaving aside the Division we will end up playing in this season,” the new Coach told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper.

“I may be crazy, but I still believe in Serie A [after the appeals]. If that is not the case, we will do our best to immediately regain our First Division status.

“There are 126 points available and if we arrive at 95 then we should be able to achieve the result.

“And when Juventus are back in Serie A then the Scudetto will once again be the main target,” he insisted.

Deschamps was approached after Fabio Capello left for Real Madrid and the club’s serious plan for the future was the reason why he accepted the role.

“John Elkann asked me to be part of the renewal of the club and I was immediately convinced,” he added. “He reminds me of his grandfather Gianni Agnelli, who loved this team very much.”

The 1998 World Cup winner has also insisted that the club’s project is why certain high level players have decided to stay.

“Gianluigi Buffon will remain here, as well as David Trezeguet and I am very happy about this,” said Deschamps.

“As for Alessandro Del Piero, he is essential for the team and I believe he will do very well, although playing in Serie B may not be easy for any of these players at the beginning.”

Juventus have enjoyed a decent pre-season so far after they won the Trofeo Birra Moretti on Friday following wins over Napoli and Inter.

Juve will also meet the 2005-06 Italian champions again on August 31 at the Trofeo Tim tournament, which will also include Milan.

Source: Football Italia
