Capello silences angry Alex Saturday 28 May, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The tension is rising in Turin as Fabio Capello responded to Alessandro Del Piero’s insistence he had nothing to thank the Coach for, while rumours link the player to Arsenal.

“The results prove me right,” smiled the Juventus boss as he prepared for Sunday’s Scudetto celebrations. “One less ‘thank you’ I receive won’t make much difference considering the many people who have shown me gratitude for this year.”

The relationship between Capello and the captain has been poor throughout the campaign, particularly with Del Piero substituted a remarkable 26 times and usually the first to be pushed aside for tactical requirements.

Yesterday afternoon Del Piero hit out at his Coach and assured during his Press Conference that he did not need to thank Capello for the title success. The Italian international also warned that he would reconsider his future if he was not given guarantees of more first team football.

“A club like Juventus cannot give guarantees to a player, as those who go on to the field do so because they have earned it,” snapped Capello in response. “If Del Piero asks for guarantees, then what are the others supposed to say?”

Its 7 mil, as stated in the channel 4 report shown above. However, i think there's a good chance Alex could move to England or Palermo in Italy.
This was what wrote Repubblica (a very importan Italian newspaper) and Gazzetta the day after the contract was signed (oct 3rd 2003)

5,6 mio € to play
2,3 mio € for his image rights

7,9 mio €

But then you have to "remove" the taxes and what remains is a little more than 4 mio €

This does not sound good. I can't recall Del Piero saying things like that, and he's had some rough spells. Also, I don't believe Capello is such a clean guy as a lot of you seem to believe. Remember Montella? When I was in Italy a couple of months ago I even saw Totti telling that Capello can be a real bastard when he doesn't like a player and that he's hardly a fair coach.

I'm glad DP FINALLY said it. He had to react at some point in time. He played a good season, with some GREAT games (e.g. Milan) and never received the praise he should have. That he was benched against Livorno was cruel IMO and unnecessary.

Really, I don't see why on earth Del Piero should thank Capello either. And no, for the love of god, Capello wasn't great this season! Didn't you all see those tactical blunders against Liverpool? Don't you realise we were knocked out more thanks to Capello than thanks to Liverpool?

Have Juventini got a short memory? He threatened to leave about 3 or 4(?) years ago over a money/contract issue. Why wouldn't he leave for being sat on the bench all the time? And why is it a shock that he would make a threat when he has before?
Because he, amazingly enough, kept quiet the entire season.

Enough Seven, I'm tired of reading this nonsense you always write about Capello and Del Piero. You always point to the blunders against Liverpool that we know all too well about to make your case against Capello. We also know you love Del Piero with all your heart and hate Capello for what he has "done" with him this season. We know, no need to keep bringing it up again. Capello is such a horrible coach and Del Piero is such a world class player....still.

Enough already.

Capello failed, Andy. Enough with the rubbish of Capello being such a great coach in winning the scudetto. He's the one responsible he had a mediocre team, so don't even give me that shit of how he "did so well with the team he had".

DP won us the scudetto, Andy, get over it already. I think DP played a good season and was often played (and subbed) correctly. However I also believe that he should have been a more important player to start with. If we're going to build our team around Zlatan, we'll get a very ugly Juventus for the next decade.

I wasn't even claiming that Del Piero was still a world class player, but you have to ask yourself whether it is that impossible that a player who decides who wins the scudetto isn't still world class. How could it be that he who decides one of the biggest competitions in the world is a mediocre player? Wouldn't that mean that whole competition has pretty low standards? Wouldn't that mean the EPL, for example, is a better competition ;).

Andy your not discussing things with open eyes. Seven is giveing a legitimate argument with you and you brush it aside. Del Piero did win the scudetto. Not Zlatan, Del Piero at the age of 30 won us the scudetto not Zlatan at the age of 23, not Capello who lost us the champs league, with his ridiculous tactics. Im sorry but you will realize that if Del Piero goes how our season next year will go down the drain. Just watch, even Michael Platini said, juve is a great side, but when del piero is at his best so is juventus.

why?he still can play an important role at Juve.all of you say Zlatan's had a great season, but both Zlatan and Alex scored 15 goals for Juve this season(SeireA and CL)and you know Zlatan played almost 2 times more than Alex.IMO he was a decisive player for us this season and it would be very sad if he leave Juve to a club such as Palermo.I really believe that Capello was unfair to Ale this season.

No, I have given my views on this subject, too many times actually. And I'm finished discussing it, especially with Seven as he is notorious for backing Del Piero no matter what and labelling everybody who doesn't agree with our captain an idiot.

Not giving any credit to Capello for winning the Scudetto is just ridiculous and not even worth my time discussing it with you people. And then saying Del Piero singlehandedly won us the Scudetto is just simply imbecilic and is a slap in the face to every player who played a part in our season. But suit yourself and your DP fairytale land.

People like you two actually increase the criticism Del Piero recieves. You lot are just provoking people to prove you wrong and that just increases the shit being thrown Del Piero's way. Do you really want that? You really want to have people proving you wrong by bashing Del Piero? I know Seven makes living bashing the Del Piero bashers, so it's no surprise.

To spare our captain more criticism I'm not taking part in this discussion. But the reason why our captain gets bashed all the time around here is because of people like you. It's not fair to Del Piero at all.

Yes, because we won the match against Milan we were champions. Apparanty, 3 points are enough to win you the championship. We didnt really ned all those points where Zlatan scored the winning goal, or Trez, or Nedved against Lazio, or Camo, or Olivera... we only needed the games Del Piero scored to be champions, the other players were just there to be backup for Alex, he did everything himself.

Yes, Capello lost us the CL, because it was our to begin with. I mean, teams like Chelsea, Milan, manchester, barcelona, Liverpool... etc. shouldnt have even played, because it was ours to begin with.

Please. Cap didnt lose the CL, he just didnt win it. HUUUUUUUGE difference.

FFS. Did you even read my posts, Andy? No, you're so biased about me that you can't even read my posts in an objective way anymore.

Wow, I'm notorious for backing Del Piero. What's next? Witch burning?

Actually, Zlatan scored 16 goals, and set up 2 or 3 times more goals than Del Piero.

Yes, and assists obviously count for nothing in your world.

There is a reason why people are saying that Zlatan is the only foreign player to adapt to Serie A in his first year since Sheva.

Yes indeed I am biased against you.

You and I have been down this path before and it's not worth it. You won't give Capello any credit and you'll praise Del Piero no matter what happens. I give Capello and Del Piero the credit they deserve. If you wonder where the latter praise was given look no further than the Del Piero thread in which I gave a synopsis of his season. You actually agreed with me in that respect.

But that post above was just too much Seven.

I didn't understand.you mean people bash Alex because of ones like Seven who support him in this way?so their opinion depend on what Seven(and the ppl like him)says?if Seven(and ppl like him)didn't support Alex in this way,Del Piero bashers wouldn't criticize him?
