If you have not witnessed clubs in sport that have paid top dollar for a marquee athlete who basically drained the salary cap until retiring, then you know nothing about the economics about sport. Especially when said club inevitably spends itself broke leading up to that retirement, and then has to spend years digging itself out.

I know there are some player fans who think we should grant their favorite player all the riches of Vatican City and that would be great. But I don't want to see that. A club has to be fiscally responsible, and last I checked Del Piero played for Juventus -- not the other way around.
