Why do we talk so much about Del Piero? Because we hate him and we all think he's shit? Well, why the hell aren't we constantly talking about Salas then? Why isn't one thread out of two dedicated to Salas?

No, we all love Del Piero but some of us are angry with him because he chokes a lot and try to make that anger look like hate. I don't think too much Juventus fans actually hate Del Piero.
I even think not too much Italians hate Del Piero. No, we're frustrated and angry because he doesn't live up to his potential.

But what is so intruiging to me is that some fans seem to like that. It makes Del Piero look like the broken hero, the fallen prince. And even the media likes it, they're crazy about this concept.

As for now, I don't think Italian football or Juventus could do without Alessandro Del Piero. Every day thousands of people are discussing about whether or not "the real Del Piero" will ressurect. We like this discussion otherwise we wouldn't be in it...

Fair enough to like DP but to compare him to Maradona or say he's better that Zidane that's far fetched.

Baggio is the guy who drew the crowds like Maradona did, definitely not Del Piero.
I don't compare his career as a whole with Maradona and certainly Maradona was the better player, but the important thing is that Del Piero seemed to be the next Maradona at the time. He never reached the level he should have, that's true.

And I'm not an Italian, so I wouldn't really know Del Piero didn't attract the crowds, but I go to Italy 2 times a year and I constantly see Del Piero-jerseys over there. Far more than Totti, Baggio or Vieri. So I guessed Del Piero was quite popular.

Yes he is popular, but mostly because of his attitude and personality, he is the only star (compared to Totti and Vieri) who isnt a primadonna.

But lately he has had some rude comments and responded more to critisism than before, it only shows that he is frustrated of not being able to prove his ability anymore.
I think it is only a matter of a couple of seasons before Juve will sell him to a smaller club.

Hmm..you're right about the fact it shows that he's not able to prove his ability anymore, but he was right to criticise. They don't act the same towards Del Piero as to any other player on the peninsula.

That might be, but there are a lot of kids that practically live on the street that wear his jersey as well. Do they all care for his attitude? Del Piero should have fans solely for his attitude, true, but it's hard to imagine most of his fans are fan of him because of that.

The criticism Del Piero gets is out of proportion. Remember that we didn't even expect Del Piero to be good in the Euro's, no our main hope, our star, the man who would lead us to glory was Francesco Totti. Instead Del Piero gets even more blamed than Totti and gets criticised all the time. We expected Del Piero to be reasonable in the Euro's and reasonable he was, if we had expected him to be world class then we could have criticised him.

But in Italian media (which I follows) has Totti and mostly vieri plus trap got the critisism, not much too DP.
It depends on the paper I've noticed. La Gazzetta Dello Sport seems to have a soft spot for Del Piero whereas Corriere Dello Sport seems to hate him. Perhaps it has to do with their location, but it's quite obvious.

Not even Vieri should get blamed the most, it's all Totti IMO. If you can't even simply NOT SPIT, for crying out loud, you're not the player the national team needs.

Anyway, this isn't the discussion I wanted. I wanted a discussion about what about Del Piero is so strange that we and the media talk about him all the time..

Agreed!. I dont know if all of you people saw him on the press conference were he attacked (with words) the journalist and said he was more man than all of them together!, Vieri is just the most disgusting player there is, Totti's spitting is nothing compared.

Yes, of course his behaviour in that press conference was more disgusting than everything Totti has ever done. But I was talking about their acts on the football field. And let's not even talk about who's the most disgusting player we've seen.

Damn..is there anyone here that is just as much in love with the concept of the "fallen prince" as I am? I really love fallen princes :D. Though they are useless in a way.
