Category: General

Alessandro Del Piero is a “major doubt” for Tuesday’s trip to Highbury after limping off with a thigh injury against Roma.

The Juventus star has barely trained all week due to a muscular problem and was surprisingly given a start against Roma at the Delle Alpi last night.

However, he pulled up with a left thigh injury and limped off after just 17 minutes of play, making way for David Trezeguet in the 1-1 draw.

“He had already struggled with a problem in that leg during the week and I have major doubts that he’ll be fit in time for Tuesday,” explained Coach Fabio Capello.

Juventus will take on Arsenal in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final at Highbury on Tuesday evening.

However, the man himself is confident that it is not a thigh strain, as that diagnosis would rule him out for two to three weeks.

“I don’t think it’s anything particularly serious,” assured Del Piero. “It’s a shame, though, as I had already recovered from this kind of thing from last week. We’ll wait and see what the tests say.”

Source: Football Italia

why is capello getting the blame for this?
Because he knew of the problems Del Piero had during a week and still opted to play him, the recurrence of the injury is a direct consequence of that.

Coaches are the ones who make the decisions to risk players who are not 100% fit; in this case Capello chose to take that risk and it backfired big time. In what way is it so hard to understand that it's a mistake on his part?

Capello demands Juventus focus Tuesday 28 March, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fabio Capello insists his Juventus side have the qualities to dismiss the threat of Arsenal in tonight’s Champions League tie.

The Highbury outfit do seem to fancy their chances against the Italian giants even if Capello has great faith in his players.

“It will be a difficult game for us,” said the tactician. “We must stay very alert, but we are strong enough to not only beat Arsenal but also reach the Paris Final.”

The Old Lady travelled to London without the suspended Pavel Nedved and the injured Alessandro Del Piero.

The first is likely to be replaced by former Chelsea player Adrian Mutu, while David Trezeguet with be partnered in attack by an under-fire Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“I think Zlatan will have a good game,” assured the tactician. “He is sometimes wrongly criticised, but he is of vital importance to the team and I am happy with him.”

Tonight’s clash at Highbury is understandably being dominated by Patrick Vieira’s return, but the Coach insists a former Juventus player could be key.

“All home teams in Europe are called to attack in games, especially when a side has a player like Thierry Henry,” noted Don Fabio. “We must stay focused.”

The Premiership outfit will be the fresher team after their weekend game was postponed, while Juve had to play for 45 minutes against Roma with 10 men.

Yet Capello isn’t worried, in fact, Saturday’s Delle Alpi performance has left him in great spirits.

“The team is in good shape and I think that was evident against Roma,” he argued, even if many commentators were not that impressed with their display.

“It was an important test for us ahead of the Arsenal match, but we must now go and prove ourselves on the pitch.”

Meanwhile, Del Piero has been ruled out of action for the next 10 days which means he will also miss the second leg of the match against Arsenal.

lets see now.
how about the fact that it is the physio who declares a player unfit or fit before a match?how about the fact that because he suffered an injury in mid week,he might have been able to recover in time which is why the physio would have declared him fit for the match?are you one of those people who believe everything posted in the media about who is fit and who is unfit?

either way, even if del piero was NOT fit to play, which i doubt because im sure a clud as big as ours doesnt have idiots for physios, the fact is that the physio declares a player fit or unfit.del piero was most probably declared fit before the match by the physio which is why capello picked him.blaming capello because he got injured is stupid.
