Luis Perea has done nothing but impress me when I've seen him and like Andy said, he has all the makings of a future world-class player.

Gonzalo Rodriguez is also very promising and has successfully made the transition from one of the best centre backs playing in South America to one of the best in La Liga.

Andrea Barzagli is IMO Italy's best young defender. I see him being the one to lead the Azzurri backline when Nesta and Cannavaro hang up their boots. Palermo are supposedly interested in Miccoli so he could very well be used in a player exchange deal for the young centre half.

There's no denying Cristian Chivu's ability but his availability is the key factor. How much would he cost and does he want to leave? Jorge Andrade is a fine CB too and a Deportivo departure could be on the cards for the solid Portuguese international so Moggi would do well to keep his eye on the man that partnered Ricardo Carvalho so brilliantly at Euro 2004.

Pablo Ibanez and Vincent Kompany of Atletico Madrid and Anderlecht respectively would also be good signings. Miguel would be my choice for right back, but let's not forget about Palermo's Cris Zaccardo.

Zaccardo was better a couple years back, right now his standards seem to have dropped a little.Agree on Chivu and Barzagli though.

Zaccardo is a right back. Since Zebina has done a pretty good job this season and we are very short on young central defenders I would say we should focus on that area of the team. Thuram would accept a rotation system with the new guy next season, since it's going to be the last season of his career.

if we really would sign a class defender, then id say we should go for Lucio (bayern)...he will prob. cost around 15m€ and thats ok for a player like him imo...

if not that much.. then go for Kompany.. young and great..!
he is not so good.. may be good enough for bundesliga but not for seria A ;)

I am really not sure about Chivu. I'm afraid that he might become Roma's version of Igor Tudor with the injuries he has suffered. Not sure about his latest injury, but he has only played a few games this season and who knows when he will return. Hopefully another great stopper has not been lost.

That said, I would see how Chivu recovers before we make a move for him. Right now I would take Andrade or Perea along with Barzagli. Oh, but how I would love to get a hand on Chelsea's William Gallas..

Mourinho's not an idiot though. There are a lot of managers out there that would bring in player after player after player if they had the luxuries in terms of transfer and wage funds that Chelsea do and Mourinho has proven that he's not like that. He buys who he feels is necessary and keeps his squad relatively thin. I don't see him releasing Gallas.

Andrade, Perea, Barzagli, Rodriguez, there are plenty of good options out there. Pablo, Chivu and Kompany are also possibilities even if they are less likely to join than the aforementioned quartet and if Moggi decides to go for cheaper players then he can look at Bonera or Bovo.

Kompany will probably be too expensive as his hype level is very high.
i rather spend a bit more on world class defender than buying a cheaper decent one, tryin to train him but failed as usual (legro, appiah)

Hype or not, Anderlecht, or any Belgian outfit for that matter, is absolutely not in a dominant position to negotiate. I can see the €20 pricetag they ask on principle rather easily lowered to €12-€14m. That is if serious bidders aren't too many. Juventus or anyone that happens to buy him (correction, withdraw Chelsea) will have to proceed cleverly.
