I heard it was a Crocodile Dundee style 'call that a knife' type exchange which resulted in one guy pulling out a massive sword.*

*Bozi, keep your innuendo to yourself. :D

They would be freed if the deceased family desicde to pardon them. Of course this is a complex emotional decision, but it is valid.
If the family pardons them, then they should also kill the family of the murdered guy.

Wait, they will actually be free and let to continue living normal if the family pardons them?
Alen.. They wont be free at once but I think they will have to pay blood-money. If I am not mistaken.
They have to pay the blood money to the family of the murdered guy and they'll be free. The strange part is not this one though. I'm not sure about the other Islamic countries but in Iran if you kill someone and you sentence to death the family of the one who's been murdered will have to pay the blood-money of YOU (the murderer) to your family and then you'll be executed. But if the murdered guy's family pardon you, your family have to pay the blood-money and you'll be free :shifty:
Blood-money?

Are you guys friggin' serious? All of this is insane and retarded. Kudos for having the worst legal system in the world.

It wouldn't happen in a LOT of countries.

The last time someone paid blood money so he wouldn't be convicted for muderering someone with a sword dates back to 1325 over here.

And it wasn't legal at that time either.

In Iran, you can escape the death penalty by paying money to the family of the killed, if the family accepts it. If they do, the felon gets jail time instead.

At least that makes a bit more sense than letting them free completely.

The death penalty is simply retarded and obsolete, why do some countries still use it is something I will never understand.

I don't know about non-Muslim countries but in Islam it's supposed to be a must which has been mentioned in Qoran:

و لكم فی القصاص حیاه یا اولی الا لباب لعلكم تتقون (بقره / 179)

I think it's up to you to interpret it though. In the verse above it's generally said that "eye for an eye" is for your own good. I don't see any obligation in it.

In the USA, executing a man is more expensive than keeping him in jail for life.
Only because of all the appeals and leaving them on Death Row for years.

If you went directly from being found guilty to death, it would be much cheaper.

Hell, just skip the trial too to make it even cheper.

Ow, I thought Islam never preached violence?
