Why wouldn't footballers train to get faster?
Of course they train to get faster all the time.

When I played football in training we did some work to improve our speed but most of the work I did by myself.

If Rugani's main goal would be to run faster he'd easily get faster but as his main goal is to become the better player overall I'm not so sure that he will concentrate on the speed enough to make a difference.

Can you give an example of a player that had a noticeable increase in speed?

I think Pogba is faster now than he was when he joined. It's a lot easier to work on your speed when you're young so most players probably don't improve that much when they join the first team anymore the hard work has already been done but I bet there are examples of that happening too.

Rugani is still young enough to improve that aspect of his game if he decides to put the hours in.

Today? No way.

But he hasn't been half as bad as most suggest, and as Soren said it's stupid to evaluate individuals too much based on today's outing, where just about everyone has been shit

Today he looked really bad than usual, but this was not his first bad display. The guy still has a very long way to go to be a starter here. At this point Caceres when fit is ahead of him.

Yep guys you're right , was kinda mad !
Bonucci used to be worse , now he is one of the best in the world , i hope this guy will be good defender!

All I can say is that penalty was atrocious.

I mean, he was tired and is much slower than the other guy. OK.

But committing such a stupid needless penalty in a moment like that... I was out of words.

Anyway, he barely played this season.. still learning what kind of player he is.

But certainly he is not a 21 yr old phenomenon like some used to say when he was at Empoli.

Yeah as far as top level CBs go the kid is pretty shit atm but i'm sure he'll be a completely different beast with another 2-3 years of top level coaching and surrounded by top level CBs. Plenty of time.

A loan spell would do good at some point too.

Poor performance for sure. Looked slow, weak and out of his depth. But he's still very young people, let's not kill his career with over the top criticism already. Let him grow, he's going to make a lot of mistakes along the way - I still have faith in him.

I wouldn't write him off. After Bonbon example especially. Remember how shit Bonucci was and how he improved to a great defender. This guy is just 21 years old, no need to panic.
