Confirms we will have a sporting director and technical director. Also says Chiellini won’t be involved in transfers, but will represent the club in meetings with UEFA and Serie A…and also with marketing.
"We will add a sporting director to the staff who will take care of the transfer market, and we will also have a technical director. I won’t give you the names, but I have a clear idea of the profiles to choose. We are not in a hurry to make decisions. It is a recruitment process.”

Vacancy :
Sporting Director
Technical Director
Staff who take transfer market (Head of Scout ?)

We expect him to pick the right person. It's possible our transfer market will just start when all already in place, possibly July.

And also says we will go in every competition to win.

I know we clearly won’t come close to winning any comp this season…but I do like our management talking like this and not “we are content with top 4, and doing a minimum of the round of 16 etc”.
The mentality that the board instills into all areas of the club does matter, it’s obviously not a guarantee that words will actually translate into facts but that’s surely a good place to start instead of setting ourselves minimal targets and then struggling to even reach those.

“I would like to hire a sporting director who will handle transfers and management, be involved in the transfer market, and focus on the youth sector, reporting directly to me,” Comolli continued.

“When you look at the Juventus jersey, the only way is to try to win. It will be my obsession and this is already part of the club’s culture.

Lastly, Comolli was asked about details regarding the summer transfer strategy, but he was more reluctant to provide an exhaustive response.
“I’m very open, but there is one thing I’m not open about, and it’s transfers. I tend to be more reserved on this,” he concluded.

“We discussed with the coach, Giorgio and Maurizio. We have an idea; we are considering Igor’s approach. What I can say is that surely adjustments need to be made, but not radical changes.”

Overall it was interesting to hear what he had to say. Probably the most important takeaway is that he doesn't think a revolution is necessary, rather a reshuffle or some touches to improve the squad.

It will be interesting to have someone more 'international' at the helm, I wonder if we will broaden our horizons more in terms of signings.

The stuff about data that he said is most definitely true, every club is using it, the best clubs use it etc. Realistically, the way the footballing landscape is right now we need to be smart with the moves we make in order to compete. We don't have the luxury of being able to throw money at the problem. We need to be shrewd and look for value. If we can do that it will be good, it's what we did when we were last successful.

Of course talk is cheap but he held himself well in that press conference. While I to want us to sort out the issue of a DS and DT he is right in saying we shouldn't just rush into it, even if I'm sure they already know who they want. Time is however of the essence unless he will oversee transfers for this mercato pending us finding someone suitable.

He seems to have a clear vision which is good, clear delineation with roles as well. Didn't say project once which is positive and said we need to win.

“I have a person in mind, it is a process, but we don’t want to rush. Once the structure is decided, we will also determine the personnel.

“We will also have a technical director, also reporting to me.”

Comolli added he was looking for “Two high-profile roles.”

“There is a process we need to carry out. I believe we will do it before the next transfer window [July 1], but we don’t want to rush.”

“I spoke with Dusan last week. The player should return shortly, and I want to talk to him [again] to understand what he has in mind,” Comolli explained.

“He is a top player, but something didn’t work. I realise it’s not enough, I don’t know who is to blame. I have to talk to the player and understand, there’s no doubt he’s a top player. We need to understand what his intentions are.”

“It is part of my career, I have been working with data for 25 years. I have always thought that when people turn to me, they expect me to bring my experience. I believe it is the same at Juventus. We are paid to create emotions; at the same time, as decision-makers, we must be guided by emotions, but remain rational. On August 1, 2025, it will be my 33rd year in football, and I’ve never encountered a more logical approach than the use of data.

“My frustration was seeing many bad scouting decisions. I wondered: how can we be more precise? The Moneyball principle was very useful and can help in the market. My obsession is with improving, and to do that, you need a competitive advantage; for that, I utilise data.”

Damien Comolli on working with a data module :

“I have been working in Data for 25 years and when someone comes to me it’s for this model. It’s about being rational and not making decisions from the gut. Data is the most rational approach. We will use data in different areas from team selection to measuring ourselves against our opponents. Everyone now uses this model. It can help us prevent injuries as well. The Premier League is run on this idea”

It sounds like Comolli knows Italian football is in the shitter and isn’t worried about adapting to it. That’s a good first step.

I get the sense that he’s gonna be in charge of signings either way. He just needs someone to help him out. A Paratici to his Marotta.

Was he saying we are waiting for July 1 when the transfer market opens??? Dude the transfer market is already started...

Also, isn't the "Moneyball" concept about ignoring all other aspects than raw data? Suppose we are the new Inter ending up with a bunch of old guys who excel at just one thing?

Transfer window closes today and doesn’t open again until July 1. Haven’t really seen Juve miss out on any significant targets.

From what Comolli has said, he values the human aspect, he doesn’t rely 100% on analytics. He’s mentioned things like work ethic/mentality are important. He just leans on data heavily to make decisions. I don’t see anything wrong with it, allows him to make decisions without emotion.
