FOUR CHANGES FOR PRAGUE

Holland coach Marco van Basten has added Ibrahim Afellay, Edgar Davids, Serginho Greene and Urby Emanuelson to his provisional squad list ahead of the crucial World Cup Qualifier against the Czech Republic on 8 October.

Ibrahim Afellay (pictured below) is currently one of the most exiting talents to have come out of the notorious Dutch football education systems. Afellay (born in Utrecht in 1986) still plays his football on the midfield of PSV in Eindhoven, after having made his debut in the Dutch top flight for the Southern club in February 2004.

The return of Edgar Davids has caused many Dutch football fans to start creating banners and costumes that will ensure a warm welcome-back for the midfield player of Tottenham Hotspur. Coach Van Basten dropped him from the squad after his spell on the bench at Internazionale from Milan but now that Cocu is suspended and Davids is back playing, nothing seems to prevent the Pitbull from making a re-appearance in the Orange squad.

Here's the provisional roster and the situation in Europe's WCQ Group 1:

Goal: Henk Timmer (AZ Alkmaar), Edwin van der Sar (Manchester United) en Oscar Moens (Willem II).

Defense: Urby Emanuelson (AFC Ajax), Wilfred Bouma (Aston Villa), Tim de Cler (AZ Alkmaar), Barry Opdam (AZ Alkmaar), Ron Vlaar (AZ Alkmaar), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (FC Barcelona), Serginho Greene (Feyenoord), Khalid Boulahrouz (HSV Hamburg), Theo Lucius (PSV Eindhoven), André Ooijer (PSV Eindhoven), Jan Kromkamp (Villarreal).

Midfield: Nigel de Jong (AFC Ajax), Olaf Lindenbergh (AFC Ajax), Hedwiges Maduro (AFC Ajax), Wesley Sneijder (AFC Ajax), Denny Landzaat (AZ Alkmaar), Mark van Bommel (FC Barcelona), Rafael van der Vaart (HSV Hamburg), George Boateng (Middlesbrough), Ibrahim Afellay (PSV Eindhoven), Phillip Cocu (PSV Eindhoven), Edgar Davids (Tottenham Hotspur).

Attack: Ryan Babel (AFC Ajax), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Roy Makaay (Bayern München), Arjen Robben (Chelsea), Romeo Castelen (Feyenoord), Dirk Kuyt (Feyenoord), Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United), Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (PSV Eindhoven)

I REALLY don't see what the fuss around Ryan Babel is about. Mediocre at best IMO.
He's decent but every coach has so far played him in the wrong positions. He is NOT a right winger, dammit :fero: Hate it when coaches try to change a player, turning him mediocre...

    the defence is rather unimpressive
You wouldn't be saying that if you could watch AZ Alkmaar on a regular basis

    ISnt De Jong a defender?
If he plays in defense; it's usually on the right so he can cover the flank. He's very forward-minded.

That was a mediocre performance though. Shame, he had real potential as a central forward...

Currently he'd have to fight Rosenberg and to a lesser extent Charisteas... Maybe he'll get some time in the FA Cup...

PLACE YOUR BETS... ON THE CZECHS

Ah, the Czech Republic! Ah, Prague! One of Europe's most gorgeous cities! Many romantic and beautiful memories are created in this metropole in the Centre of the ancient world. Except if you're a Dutch football player.

The Dutch record in Prague is appalling. Once they won with goals from Johan Cruyff and Johan Neeskens; but that was a friendly match. And even the Dutch clubs, with a little aid from some solid foreign players, have never managed to pull off a stunt in the capital of the Czech Republic.

If you're looking to make some money off of this; it shouldn't be too difficult...

    PHP:
    1960 Czechoslovakia - Netherlands 4-0 Friendly
    1972 Czechoslovakia - Netherlands 1-2 Friendly
    1986 Czechoslovakia - Netherlands 1-0 Friendly
1995 Czech Republic - Netherlands 3-1 EC qualification
2003 Czech Republic - Netherlands 3-1 EC qualification

1966/67 Dukla Prague - Ajax Amsterdam 2-1 European Champions Cup
1974/75 Dukla Prague - FC Twente 3-1 UEFA Cup
1984/85 Bohemians Prague - Ajax Amsterdam 1-0 UEFA Cup
1999/00 Sparta Prague - Willem II Tilburg 4-0 Champions League
    2001/02 Sparta Prague - Feyenoord R'dam 4-0 Champions League
2005/06 Sparta Prague - Ajax Amsterdam 1-1 Champions League

God I love that avatar :D

The Romanians won and are currently in second place. The pressure is all on the Czech Republic; they can still fail to qualify!!

Ht 2-0 for the Dutch. On one side i'm happy for them , because they're playing great , but on the other hand i'm quite sad because my 2 favourite national teams are the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.

Rosicky missed a penalty , Van der Vaart and Landzaat ( i think ) with the goals

Van der Vaart & Opdam scored :)

2-0 for the Netherlands, just like on Euro2004. Will the Czechs come back once again? This game is one of luck; and the Czechs haven't had it so far but god knows games between the Czechs and the Dutch are never normal nor consistent in any way...
