Imo the closest thing to a paradox like that in trad finance right now are the country bonds. Every pension fund company advises the old geezers that are a step away from retiring to choose the conservative pension plan full with longterm country bonds, saying that their money wont earn much, but is almost guaranteed to not lose value. And then the Euribor rises, countries release better bonds and the shitty, old ones suddenly lose -10%, -15% of their value.
